warped Olfa Mat

warped olfa mat

Postby snowplow3840 » Tue Apr 17, 2007 11:17 am

to Quilter Lynn and fabric whisperer: I too come from a long line of "frugal" people. The depression left its marks but imigrating from Ccrnwall England where they were miners and none too wealthy to Wisconsin to also mine there, taught them how to stretch everyting from food to cloth to tools etc to the nth degree and get every last ounce of use out of it. Yes that is why the women quilted. I too have a tendency to save things thinking I will use them someday. I am learning slowly that someday may mean giving them ro a charity that can use them. but I especially have to watch out for the frugal at all costs mentality. Sometimes things have outlived their usefullness and throwing then away or passing them on to someone less fortunate makes the most sense.. My warped olfa mat is stuck to the top of one of the other "cutting tables" in my sewing/craft room. when I need to cut items with those wicked craft knives i work at that craft on the old mat so I never leave cut marks in my good one

enjoyed reading these comments made me feel I am again with kindred spirits Ann

I struggle with this, but being married to someone with the same problem caused me to have to be the one to purge! BUT I always try to find something a new home or new use before it just goes in the trash. I dutifully recycle everything our locality will take, I donate clothes & household items to a non-profit thrift shop, and I'm a member of our local "freecycle" group. Check them out at freecycle.org, it's all about finding a new "home" for our discards.

also try making a gift of it to your husband's workbench. they are good protection from lots of yucky stuff.

Florence, I just heard about them (freeecycle.org) the other day. Now you remind me to check them out!

I use Freecycle to pass on unwanted/stored items. I've met some very nice people from that group.
