Shirley's SunBonnet Sue SoTTT

Shirley's SunBonnet Sue SoTTT

Postby Margo » Fri Apr 15, 2011 8:36 am

This is what Shirley has so far:

Shirley: I'm thinking about making on-point blocks of International Sues for each country in the exchange and have some fun designing their outfits. There will also be a Cowboy Ricky and maybe a few Overall Bill/Sam's? for the rest of our brother quilters. These blocks would each be framed with the HST's.

Margo: What a clever idea, Shirley!!! I would love to see someone pull that one off!!
A "pirate" for Alex might be too confusing, but a hand quilter would be perfect!
And one dressed in HSTs for Edyta???
And HST sorting hats for Debbie and Clara!!
I'm lovin' this!!

Shirley: Oh, Margo! We are sooooooooooo totally on the same page!!!!!!!!! It's going to take some time to plan each of the "Sue" blocks plus Ricky's and the guys' blocks, but it's going to be one happy tea party for sure!

Margo: OK...tell me when to stop!! Ricky needs a little red piano and Alex needs red shoes!!

Shirley: Margo...DON'T STOP, DON'T STOP, DON'T STOP! We're sharing the same fantasy! I have to print the words "The Doll" somewhere on Edyta's hat (because her husband says she is and I believe him after this exchange!); Alex has to be quilting a "very small feather" design and she's wearing sandals to show off her pedicure! How is that? In addition to a piano and flute (music) theme, Ricky has to be wearing a modified version of his rhapsody design going up his pant leg/s; Debbie (filling a bag of Golden Tickets of HST triangles for Clara's van) and Clara (who's also petting her favorite pony) "just have to be wearing" their special couture hats by Rosemary and Friends of the UK, and you have to be a teacher with a class of "little HST triangles" learning to write their signatures on the SoTTT Forum and doing friendship quilting!
Okay...your turn...I have to stop hyperventilating!

Margo: Sorting hats don't necessarily have to be pointed like the one Rosemary made, but just regular Sunbonnets made of HSTs? Either way would be great!
Backgrounds....depending on how much you want to get carried away with this, the backgrounds of at least some of the blocks need to be 1" x 1" (finished size) HSTs in very subtle neutral colors. In fact, I will volunteer to make some for you! Let me know if you want this addition, and how many pieced ones, and what size your blocks will be.
Would you like to see if there are any International volunteers who would be willing to make suggestions for their country's Sue?
Oh my! Maybe it's time to start a new topic to keep all of this together!

Shirley: Great ideas, Margo! (And thank you for offering to make 1"x1" background squares. I'll get my thinking cap on for that idea!) ...And an emphatic, "YES, I would l-o-v-e to hear how our International Sue SoTTT sisters would like to be dressed!" What fun this is going to be! After all this sharing and bantering back and forth, these "Sue's and Ricky and the Guys" blocks might become larger individual wall hangings.
Okay, all of you SoTTT sisters and brothers out there...what would you like to wear?

personally speaking you could use this photo as inspiration for me
winter 08 093.jpg

Hoods without the 'pointy forward' brims were worn then, and you could give me a hst underskirt & stomacher. (the jacket sleeves were supposed to have been embroidered, but I ran out of time and never went back to it as planned  ) If you like I could have a go at drawing something up.

Clara, do I have your permission to somehow print out on fabric your adorable signature line horse? When I first saw your signature with your art work, I knew I had to incorporate it somehow in your Sue block! :P

Yay.. my signature works :D Margo you instructions are brilliant, even if the site was slow and slightly erratic :?

By the way what size are you thinking of for your blocks? or shall I just work in a comfortable size square and you can enlarge/decrease as you need to fit.

:D Rosemary, just work in a comfortable size square you like. I'll take care of the reducing/enlarging end of it. Thank you, again, for your kind offer. I also like your choice of font and color for your signature. 8)

Actually that is (Ancient) Pistol, the picture is a couple of years old now and he passed away 5 months after it was taken. He was a fine and handsome fella, who loved to watch fireworks! 8) and enjoyed helping to fetch bags of shopping from the car to the house, we could even trust him to carry in a bag of meat & sausages in and he wouldn't mess with them because he always got a small treat for every bag he carried  . The 'tub' was his plastic bed basket and where ever that was, home was, if we were camping provided it was taken out of the car when we arrived, he was settled, but if we didn't he set up a right fuss and worry until we did :) .

and for switzerland, how about a choccie munching "heidi", skiing down the matterhorn ?
actually i prefer her non-skiing but playing on a mountain meadow with her little white goat "snowflake" (actually "schneehoppeli" but that doesn't translate very well...).

Shirley,

If you are going to include us all, my Sue could wear and apron as I am a retiring Home Ec. teacher or it could have pots & pans or a sewing machine. I am beginning to count the days until June 10th! Maryjo
PS my weekend goal is t get a cool signature up on this site.

Josew, I think that Shirley is thinking of featuring the International participants. I'm not sure she is up to 615 Sues!!!

When you work on your signature, it's best to print out the directions and follow each step exactly as written. It took a lot of us several tries, but it will work if you follow the instructions carefully. viewtopic.php?f=80&t=3670

Enjoy your upcoming retirement!! :D
