Jan,
40 wt thread is good for quilting and piecing. YLI is a great brand of thread.

Hi Jan..in my opinion any thread is greate for quilting..you just need the right needle and be sure of the look you want on your quilt. Try it out on a sample...ever the ugliest thread can be beautiful it the right quilt :wink:

Thanks for all these great answers lately. I guess I made a good purchase as these spools are of great colors that I love, so they will be good for quilting.

Jan,

I always use a 90/14 or 100/16 topstitch needle with my 40 wt thread. It all depends on the fabric, If I am working with denim, I would use the heavier needle, but for the most part I keep my 90/14 stocked up.
