bias binding

bias binding

Postby horserider » Wed Jan 31, 2007 8:56 pm

Help, I've got a quilt to bind and it's got rounded corners on an otherwise straight quilt. Do I need bias binding for the whole quilt or just for the corners?

Bias Binding

Hmm. Interesting question about the bias binding/rounded corners. My instinct says you need to make it bias all the way. Not sure how it would work to just "work in" the bias when you got to the corners. So my vote is all bias. I'll be interested to hear what others think.

Yup, I second that opinion; go bias for the whole enchilada, you'll be glad you did.

Go bias all the way as it's difficult to add binding while you've got a lot of it stitched on the quilt already; I've tried this, it's a pain in the toukas, not worth the effort.

I have my own directions for making bias binding in an easier (at least to me) way, if you want I can send them to you. Send your email address to terificreations@gmail.com and I'll get them off to you quickly.

happy quilting,

teri

If you're worried abbout stretching the bias, spray starch helps. Easing in the bias around the corner is helpful, too.

Bias Binding

When you have made the bias binding and you fold it in half before you machine it to the quilt, machine the raw edge of the bias strip with a longish stitch. Then when you put the binding on to the quilt you won't be able to stretch it!

A quick note to let you know that all your suggestions were greatly appreciated. I did do the bias binding and the quilt turned out great. This forum is great especially for answers to questions you're not quite sure of - I LOVE IT!!!
