Lorna - I'm so sorry I missed that quilt show. I would have loved to see your quilt in person. Congratulations on your ribbon. And may you have continued good health. Carolyn in Kerrville, TX (we bought our RV in Schertz!)

I am getting closer to completing my 2008 top. I posted a blog of the bottom border. Three more to go.

I've finally gotten back to mine, have the blocks & sashing done, HST's made so today's job is connecting them. Still haven't decided how to quilt it tho'....

I'm working on mine again too, but I think it is morphing into a combo 2008/2009 quilt. I made an extra 2009 star center trying different color ways, and the spare one used a lot of the same fabrics as the 2008 BOM. I put my currently completed 2008 blocks up on the wall around that center and found they go together WONDERFULLY and I only need 8 blocks to make what i want to do work. I already have 6 complete and am working on the 7th so it really is almost done! I also have a ton of spare sawtooth blocks (always make extra blocks, lol) so I think I will throw those in as well.

Did I miss something?? 2008 question

Postby florence » Sun Oct 18, 2009 12:52 pm

I suppose this is a good reason to stick with the group an schedule, but now that I'm putting these borders on, was there an error in the pattern for cutting them? I cut 1st inner border (off-white in the pattern) as instructed, 2 @ 1 x 63 and 2@ 1 x 48.5... and as I sew the first one on & it's short, I'm trying to figure where I went wrong, but my math is telling me the instructions are off? I couldn't find anything on the forum about this prior??
So if the blocks are 16.5" unfinished, that makes them 16" finished, yes? 4 times 16 = 64, yes? That's longer than the cut 63" already & doesn't count the sashing.
Recoverable, but frustrating! How did I miss this??

Florence, I'm so sorry you had trouble with the measurements, and to be honest, I can't remember if or when that correction was made, but I do know that Sue corrected any discrepancy that was pointed out on the forum.

In the future, it's always a good idea to measure twice and cut once once instead of just depending on patterns. Sue (and I) have tried really hard to catch all the errors in the BOM patterns before they are posted, but there is a LOT of info in her patterns, and sometimes one gets by us.

This goes for ANY pattern you are using not just TQS BOMs.

Thanks Margo, I was just wondering if maybe a mistake was caught early but I had already printed the pages? No matter, I'm using the same color for both skinny borders, so I'm just moving them all "up" one and will only have to recut the longest, and I do have the fabric. I've done this part in such fits & starts I can barely remember where I am each time I get back to it!
Oh well, one of these days...
