New video format

Postby ourgallucy » Sun May 16, 2010 3:09 pm

Alex, that's wonderful news. I've not been able to get the new format to work for me either. Have date with "genius bar" at Apple store to
see if they can find an improvement. While the buffering is sometimes a bit slow on other sites, this is the only place the sound and picture
get out of sync. Also have a problem with achieving good resolution
rapidly leaving things looking as though it were being viewed through
a steamy window. Would have emailed this all to John if the folks at Apple could offer no help. Will still pursue that and share any tips.

regarding iPad

What was wrong with the old way? It wasn't broken so why change it?

Just curious... I have an iPhone and have watched the show on my phone in the new format because being 3G it is much better than trying to watch on my PC. It seems that if I can watch the show on the iPhone, it would work on the iPad. Do you know what the difference is? I thought they both had the same OS... just interested in any info you might have - I currently do not have the iPad but would consider getting one.

I don't have an iPhone or the 3G iPad. I have the wireless or first iPad. Apple does not allow Adobe flash on the iPads. As an example...... I can't watch the smile box video's on my iPad. I have to view those on my computer.

I can watch TQS shows on my iPad and Mac but they are blurry around the edges. On my Mac in the beginning of the new change over that wasn't a problem. Why it is now I don't know except it's not me! It's the delivery.

I am very interested in the reply a previous poster said she was going to get from Apple on this subject. I hope she let's us know the outcome.

OK I am SOOOOO getiing peed off with this whole thing!!!!!!

At 17.24 I pressed play to watch the Applique 2 video. At 17.31 I switched it off before I threw something at the monitor. The yellow bar was 1cm across and Alex was saying something about being serious about printing off or something like that.

I am angry and frustrated. Everything used to work so beautifully before, now it's crap.

20.43 Settle down with wine to try and watch Quilt Show.

20.51 Alex is about to open the TQS Treasure chest. Apparently this is 1.59 in.

I must be in a time warp.

I know I'm only English and probably too far away to worry about, it's not the first or second time I've been ignored, but perhaps a paying member should be able to watch what is paid for or at least have some way of knowing why not.

PERHAPS I SHOULD SHOUT A LITTLE. PERHAPS I SHOULD DEMAND IN BIG FAT CAPITALS!

Perhaps I shouldn't bother being a fully paid up star member after all and just cream everything off except the videos and wait for the DVD release.

And I've not bothered with the lessons for a while. Life is too short.

:(

Amoret, I am so sorry you are having a hard time viewing the shows, and I completely understand your frustration. I'm not sure when John and Alex will be home from Market, but hope that you will send a note to the "Contact Us" link (drops down from "Daily Blog" on the purple bar). Send one to both the General Inquiry and to the Technical Support and maybe Guru Bob will get to it before John gets back.

Hang in there, kiddo! We don't want to loose you!!!

Clearly, there are some glitches. Do you think for a minute your complaints are ignored? Chill, baby. It'll get fixed. Go buy some fabric.

Back from market. I too had frustration watching the blogs in MN - they are currently being housed on the new player. Apparently the hotel didn't have the hi speed needed for the new player. We are currently addressing this issue ..............as for the show, you can choose the player you want to watch on - the old one or the new one. Please know we are not asleep at the wheel. You can choose to just order the videos with out a star membership - however, it is cheaper to be a member and get your discount (in total). One more thing - we have been told that the provider is coming out with better software in late June - hopefully this will solve the issue.

Capt'n John, I have just followed your advice and checked Flash. Turns out I didn't have the newest version, so I downloaded it. Before that, though, I had watched the newest show (Becky Goldsmith), and that ran pretty well, but I haven't been able to see the classroom videos or your market reports without a lot of disconnect between sound and picture. Also very blurry. With the newest version of Flash, I just check Jan Krentz's second Hunter Star lesson. It's definitely better, but still blurry and still some disconnect between sound and visual. I await more information to improve things more.
Dear Amoret, please hang in there. We would miss you waaaay too much! Hugs, Robin

I converted one of Ricky's blogs to YouTube. The blog is about his Oodles of Doodles. Here is the link

http://www.thequiltshow.com/os/blog.php/blog_id/2765

Is this better for those having trouble?

Also, we have converted all of the shows into the old format. Even the current show 611 is already posted in the "Previous Video Environment".

Hi Capt'n John, I really appreciate all the efforts you're making to try to get this working for all of us. With 50,000+ members and probably that many different computer setups, it must be really challenging. I just watched about half of the YouTube Oodles of Doodles, and it does seem a bit better, but still some blurriness and some disconnect between sound and visual. What's interesting is that it seems worst at the beginning, then gets a bit better. I am on a Mac, using Safari. I just tried FireFox, and the same clip ran pretty well there, so maybe that's what I'll have to do. I haven't yet tried viewing on my husband's computer, which is newer than mine. Hope this information helps! Thank you, Robin
