Tuesday

Tuesday

Postby quiltworks » Wed Jun 13, 2007 5:26 pm

Tuesday night while we waited for Alex for some unknown reason we talked about quilts . Dear Jane came up and as people went to dearjane.com they came back wanting to sew baby janes but did not want to go alone. So a lot of us jumped in for the ride .That is how this forum and the new chat idea came up. Alex was all for it and people are out buying new books and fabric. Get ready and join the fun. We came up with a lot of ideas and let some go. One we held on to was this is to be fun and if you make a block this week or if you don't , its just great that you came to chat and play.

Curious about Dear Jane

Postby QuilterLynn » Fri Jun 15, 2007 7:15 am

What is it about DJ that beguiles us? Is it the small block size? The minute detail? The time and place? The size of the project? What do the rest of you think?

I love lurkers I started out at dearjane.com for many months just looking at all the quilts finally it got the best of me so I got the book and started stitching . Lurking is the best way to see if you want to get involved and jump in and ask question as they come up I think the group spirit is the main thing and doing a challange block it is nice to have fellow travelers wirh you.
But that is just my thoughts and we all have them.

You may want to look at the dear jane web site as it has been gathering lots of info for years.
The Dear Jane was made by a lady in 1860 and has many traditional patterns just on a 4.5 finished scale block. the corner triangle has " in time of war" . As we are going thru the time of war also it just seems to fit with the times.
It will take months to cover erything on this site For pictures of others quilts go to the Janiacs about half way down on the home page left that willtake you to what looks like licences plates here you can look at quilts to your heart content.

Where do you mean Quiltworks?

Postby QuilterLynn » Fri Jun 15, 2007 6:42 pm

I went to the forum and don't see a Topic listed as Dear Jane? I must be missing something about your email to go there?

I've been working on Dear Jane for over a year. I'm doing it all by hand and it will take years to finish as I have so many other UFOs. I've seen it done in all blues and in all purples. Mine is in black and white with a touch of red thrown in here and there. I am on row 2 now and am half way through that. It was suggested that as you work your blocks, you do a border piece, you know, the triangles at the top, as you go along. That way you are not overwhelmed with all of those to do when you finish the main piece.

In Suggest a New Category, there is a Dear Jane thread that has several other comments by members. Is that what you are looking for? Marge

Lynn, I'm pretty sure Quiltworks is referring to the website www.dearjane.com. It is all about the original Jane Stickley quilt, "Baby Janes" (copies of the quilt) and all things related. Tons to poke around and delve into on that site.
Have fun!
