cheryl - love it !!!
have downloaded the picture (obviously with proper accreditation) to my SOTTT file - together with all the other favourites (ideas, patterns & semi-finished, finished items)
love this pattern - would this be called a barn-door pattern - i.e. as it's a continuation of the barn-door block - or am i totally off again - important thing is - it's GREAT
:)

You really don't need patience. Just turn the HST so darks and lights are next to each other. At first I thought of doing the tote bag design on Page 68 of Edyta's book, then remember seeing this pattern in one of my magazines. I figured out how many in each row, then just started pulling out of a basket. If I picked a repeat, then it went back into the basket. Once done, I left the room for a while and looked at it later to see if anything odd jumped out at me and then moved it.

thank you for the compliment. It's a high honor to be placed in a "special folder". I don't know what it is called. I remember seeing this variation in a magazine. My first thought was to make the medallion on the cover of the book, but I really didn't want to deal with all those little HST on-point. Just call me lazy. But I really do like the "striped pattern" that gives it the illusion of on-point.

BTW, I have one of your pieces. Row 15, 7th from the left. :D

Ok, so I stayed up late last night and I did scrappy. I had to talk to myself out loud to get this on the design wall. I think I like it better than my 'controlled' medallion. I have been stretched beyond my comfort zone, but I think I learned something about 'value'. It may need a little tweaking, but...I think I learned to give up control. Just took what came out, like you other ladies have been talking about.

Cheryl, I love your scrappy diamonds! I am sewing all of my HSTs from the batik exchange in that same pattern, at 1/4 the size. But, I have blended each diamond. Like one is reds, one purples, one blue/aqua, and the others blend from one color to the next, like pink to orange to green.

Terrie, I really like your layout! Little jewel boxes filled with memories of sisters around the world. Way cool!

crocus, it looks GREAT! Now you can add some borders to make it read whatever color you want! By changing the dominant color in the borders, it will make the entire quilt take on a different flavor! Just try some different border fabrics while it's on the wall and see which ones you like the best.

Look at what Sherry did with hers: http://www.thequiltshow.com/os/myblog.p ... no/1004866

and how she changed the look by adding a solid color: http://www.thequiltshow.com/os/myblog.p ... no/1004866

Well Crocus you just can't lose. Everything you've tried looks great. I like the jewel sparkle to this arrangement.

crocus--I really like the looks of that design. I will have to get my batiks out and see if I have enough to do something like that.

Crocus -
You've got a winner there! I struggle with scrappy as well. For some reason I like everyone else' scrappy better than my own!

Crocus and Cheryl-- Love the designs you have made with your HSTs. They are so beautiful. I hope I can start playing this weekend (four days off work!)
