Where to buy fabrics in Japan?

My son will be in Japan, beginning in Tokyo and traveling throughout the country for a month. Any suggestions as to where to buy traditional Japanese fabrics?

I read a blog by a Japanese quilter named Ayumi. She used to live in the US and married an American, and about a year ago, they moved back to the Tokyo area.
