Last night I was working on getting a couple of tops done to take to be quilted. The place that does them for me is having 25% off quilting services this week. Well my iron is dying on me. Looks like it is probably a short in the wiring, if the cord is on the right of the iron it works, if it is on the left it does not. Since I will be getting a new iron I was wondering if anyone has one they would recommend. I know my mom and sister love their Rowenta's, I had one and it lasted about 1 year, maybe mine was a dud. Any advise?

I have two Rowentas--an Advancer (which is probably 15 years old) and a newer Steamium. Although I've read peoples' horror stories about Rowenta irons, I've never had a problem with them. However, I make sure to empty the water tank at the end of the day, and I regularly run the self-cleaning cycle. The Advancer just started leaking a bit after 15 years but it is a nice heavy iron that heats well so I still use it especially when pressing seams after piecing and I use the Steamium when I need steam. I always use tap water, as directed by the instructions.

I have recently found out about this artist and what she does with reels of thread has to be seen to be believed - utterly amazing! (but I don't think the thread is for sewing quilts with  ) http://www.devorahsperber.com/

Wow! Thanks for finding this. I saw the Mona Lisa one when it was exhibited at the art museum in Raleigh, NC. Truly astonishing!

Calling All Reel Sewers!! (and you are all Real Sewers  )

We want to see what you've made with your reels! Rosemary & I have uploaded reels & receipts to the book
and now we need photos of your creations!

Please send an email to us, PosyP or romira, and we'll let you know how you can upload your photo.

Also, it's not too late for more recipes.

Looking forward to hearing from you. :)
