It is full of sorority symbolism. The inspiration was something similar I found when doing gravestone rubbings. We belive it was a Korean family crest for a family named Nygen (I'm told it is pronounced win). It only had 6 spokes. I call it "Tomo Dachi Rose" after the japanese name the original 10 members took at the time they formed 1921 because greek organizations were banned at that time. Tomo Dachi is translates as "circle of friends" or "circle of pearls". I quilted it with Sulky's hallograph in the color called Pewter. The WOW fabric has roses in the print and the blue is a batik. Our colors are blue and white. Our sorority flowers are the white rose and the sweet pea. The ten spokes of the design and the 10 pearls in each grouping relate back to the 10 original members. Today was the Alumni Breakfast with the new pledge class. I presented the table topper to the Alumni member that keeps the ceremo... So I went to my sorority's reunion. I was the oldest alumni there. The active chapter members started asking me about what TD was like "way back then". This started up the memories of college friends. When I start thinking about someone in my past and can't get them out of my head, I get curious and google them or search facebook for them. I found Jack was on FB so I sent a friend request. Immediately he IMed me and we chatted for at least 1/2 hour. He is still in my city so we arranged to meet up on Thursday. This is what I remember about the 1974-75 Jack... Music major, great voice, the church group's bible study at his parent's house each Sunday evening, my crush on him, Halloween frat party (I was a flapper), my dissappointment when he didn't come back the following year.

09/09/2011: I decided to make ID tags. Think: a mini version of the coasters where you take the 4 top squares, fold them in half, lay them over lapping to form a four patch, attacy to the back square by stitching around the outside edge and then turning it like a pair of socks. Pretty easy construction. However I will make circles and hexagons since I have my GO Baby with those dies. The smallest on the die is a 2" diameter so it will measure 1.5" finished. To conserve on both fabric and construction time I will only have 3 pieces for the top. This will make the Baby's Blocks motif. There will be a string or ribbon attached so you can attach it to scissors or rotary cutters. The tops will be easy to tuck a paper or fabric that says "Winner". I am debating about printing "CMQ 2012" on the back or just leave it blank so each person can write their name or initials on it. Once I get a few made I will post a picture. I really don't suggest this as a dieting strategy. I'm asking for a few prayers that I get the second interview next week and ultimately the job. This is just what I'm looking for. It is working in the office coordinating and assisting regarding Meals On Wheels and other community programs that have not been cut. It is within a long walk from home (2.8 miles) and a wonderful benefits package. On the quilting side, my local quilt guild is planning it's next quilt show for March 23 & 24 in Columbus, OH. I am committee chair for both vendors and door prizes (somewhat related). I met with my apprentice and we got the vendor invitation letters out yesterday. Two weeks ago was my last day at the temporary assignment that was promising to go permanent. This was a job I loved doing. It just wasn't to be after the governmental budget cuts reduced their grant funding by 35%. At that time they called me and the other temp into the office and told us how much they wanted to keep us both on permanently but... However, I understand they just hired a new temp from a different agency (maybe lower rate) and combined both the jobs as one. I would have liked them to call me back (I'm already half trained) even if it were a lower rate. I was still available. Oh well. I sometimes wonder what God has planned that I don't know about yet.
Candy for Valentines Day from city workers.

02/11/2011: Some good news today on my blog. http://patisurvivinglife.blogspot.com Everyday when I stand on my corner I see many of the same people. There are some city workers in blue jackets. Some sweep up junk and some are like community watch style security (with walkie talkies). Today they were handing out little chocolate in a promo wrapper to bring cheer for Valentine's Day. It was a pleasant unexpected surprise. I actually saved it to put on my pillow so I can pretend this is just a short vacation. No matter how good or bad it is there is always a little sweet at the end of the day. The good news is that, as of today I have earned February's property taxes through newspapers, Quilt Patis sales, etc. So I am here for at least one more month. Thank you for all the prayers, messages, offers of fabric (etc.), job leads, and just listening. Quilters are a family. And, YES, "It's a new day... Every Day."

02/09/2011: Today's posting is up at http://patisurvivinglife.blogspot.com I do have some stock of Quilt Patis left for those of you asking. Once I get the property taxes paid this month the next priorities are the new months of utilities and then more plastic & cutting if possible. http://quiltpati.tripod.com This evening I visited with my Mom. I told her about the blog and that it was all her fault. She always taught us to try to look at the positive side of every adversity or to turn it into a learning experience. Alex asked me when I was on her previous show, "Were you a teacher in another life?" Perhaps I was but I grew up with a family that truly values education. Mom went back to college part time when I was young. It took her 6 years but she graduated in Fine Arts and Education the year before I graduated from High School. Thank you for the prayers and encouragement you have all been sending.

They have a program of supplying information of services for someone like myself and the "Street Speech" newspapers to sell on the corners. Street Speech is written directly by the vendors who sell it and the volunteers at the coalition. I have now been purchasing my papers and going to my corner to sell them for the last 6 weeks. The vendor didn't have any single fat quarters at her booth & wouldn't break up the set. In this economy I think it was a mistake because I didn't buy the set. During all of that when I would find 10 minutes or so I would cover a Quilt Pati or sew the wing together... etc. In all I have honed the time it takes to make one of these critters to about 2.5 - 3 hours. They are pincushions that you wear as a pin... fuctional jewelry. I sold 5 at the quilt show (that was April 16 & 17). The following Monday I took 12 to the Franklin Park Conservatory's gift shop. They took them on consignment. They tie in beautifully with their "Butterflies & Blooms" exhibit that they have every year. So the quilt show is over and I was supposed to work on the temp assignment "through April". But I got the good news and bad news call from the temp agency. The assignment has ended on the 16th. That was the bad news.

01/22/2010: Last Sunday afternoon a man was shot after he got off the bus at a nearby McDonalds. The newspaper reported "witnesses said 4 men fled the scene" & "two were apprehended" but no other information. As I'm reading this in the news the name struck a chord. The age was right, in a neighborhood of my high school days & the name was spelled Jere (his spelling) instead of the more usual Jerry. OMG this was a friend from high school whom I worked with on the HS literery magazine, sang with in choir & even dated a couple of times. Such a tragic end to a beautiful soul! I just returned from the Funeral Mass. I thought perhaps it was a mugging. According to his sister (also my friend from HS) the police think they went to rob the McDonalds but it was too crowded (or some reason they didn't) so they left frusterated & just shot the first person they saw. HOW SENSELESS IT THAT??!! Please pray for Jere's family to have peace. Also pray that all of the offenders are caught and prosecu...
Columbus Metropolitan Quilters 2010 quilt show

01/18/2010: Saturday I attended my quilt guild's (CMQ) quilt show committee meeting. I am serving as vendor & door prize chairperson. Back in September I sent the Vendor Invites. Now I am sending the Door Prize Requests this week. Our quilt show is coming up fast but most companies I contact prefer to have the requests no sooner than 3 months in advance. The quilt show is Friday, April 16 & Saturday, April 17. The theme of our show is "Sunrise, Sunset" and I found three great fabric in that theme. One is a yellow with suns, one is blue with moons. These will get cut into charm squares (I will need to cut 800-900 of these). The third one has about a 3 inch square of different suns and moons with enough to cut between them including a seam allowance. I bought all that they had but there are not enough for our total expected attendance. The plan is to cut one sun or moon motif for each door prize I receive and wrap it hidden inside one of the charm squares like candy. Each person who pays for...

01/05/2010: This is a new year and a new outlook... We WILL have improvement in the economy. We WILL see more jobs available. I WILL improve my personal life. I WILL get more of my UFO's done. I WILL finish the patterns I started to write. It is supposed to be as low as 8 degrees by Saturday. I am not going to let that get to me. I will snuggle under the covers with my two dogs, if necessary. My job with JoAnn's was "seasonal" and so far I am still on the schedule. Nothing has been said about being kept on or a last day. Just to keep my options open I have made sure that all 5 temporary agencies know that I am available. Yesterday I faxed a couple applications and resumes answering some want ads. Thanks to all of the TQS family for your support. You have been there during some of my stresses and successes over the years.

These are the rewarding moments of this art.

11/29/2009: I just caught up on my sleep after Black Friday/Saturday work schedule. When I got home yesterday I took a 2 hour nap. I dared not nap longer or I wouldn't be able to sleep at night. So now it is Sunday Morning. I don't have to be in until 4 PM. Yesterday I was cutting fabrics all day and mostly it was fleece... it was on sale. At one point I called the next person to my station and she looked up and called me by name. I had never met this woman. As I started cutting her fabric (of course it was quilting cottons) she told me she had seen me years ago on Simply Quilts and that she was making a quilt with my Quilt Patis. So I invited her to visit our next quilt guild meeting. It made me feel appreciated more than any other time in the last two days. I went home tired but with a good feeling.

Even though I didn't think I would, I missed cooking the bird with our traditional cornbread stuffing and green bean casserole. I love the smells while preparing the feast. When I get a free day I may get just a turkey breast and make a mini-Thanksgiving meal for me and Mom... just a thought. I went to visit Mark and he seemed a little bit better. Then I went home and took a nap. Gotta rest up for working at JoAnn's for Black Weekend. I'm working JoAnn's til 10 PM (after working the temp job at the bank) and then they have me scheduled at 6:30 AM on Saturday. I'm thinking I have to leave home by 5:15 AM to fight the 15 miles of traffic Saturday to get there on time. Be kind to the people that are working on black weekend, they may have my schedule too.

11/26/2009: Today feels a little strange. I'm not cooking. With all that has been happening these last few weeks we will all celebrate in different locals. Mom really didn't want the "hub bub" this year. She requested a quiet day with her husband after her car accident. My brother Mark is still in the hospital (I will visit him this afternoon). My sister Helyn will be with her boyfriend's family (soon to be fiance??? I hope I hope). So my older brother, Gary & I are going out for lunch. (That's all of us.) We so have much to be thankful for. I am so thankful that my mother survived the accident with only the brusing... no concussion, or broken bones. She just looks so horrible and that will heal. I am thankful for Mark being where he is getting help. I am thankful that Helyn has Anthony in her life. I am thankful that my family is always there for eachother. I am thankful for my TQS friends who have helped me through the stressful times and the happy times. HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL! Pati

I left emphatic instructions with Floyd (her current husband) "If Mom won't wake up call 911 immediately, then call me immediately NO MATTER WHAT TIME OF NIGHT!" It is a true lifestyle of which I am proud to be a member. TQS is the best place to start. When I had my LQS, even if busy I maybe had only 1 customer a year to not be my normal quilter as I have described. I never went home saying "I hate my job/customers." Mom is living on social security and never felt she could afford surgery for him. She even asked me to help her remove it herself. I said "NO!" Over a several months I finally convinced her to at least ask for a consult especially since another lump just started to show up under the tail. We both were anticipating a couple thousand for the surgery. Since OSU is a teaching Vet Hospital I thought they may have a program that would be less expensive than my vet. When everything was consulted we both were in tears of joy. These vet and students are the best!!!!! Tomorrow morning they will be taking off both masses and his little boy parts for a very low price. We will pick him up early Saturday. We do not anticipate any problems but a pray or two sure can't hurt.

07/24/2009: Well today marks the sad loss of my quilting sanctuary of my neighbor's vacant house. It is the sherrif's sale day. I don't know when/if I will get new neighbors. I enjoyed it while it lasted. Yesterday I had a good interview but they won't make a final decision until next week. Wish me luck. I will have a great diversion in the meantime... My niece & nephew will be arriving from Oklahoma for their yearly visit with their Dad (and us) on Sunday. We aren't sure how long they will be able to stay (school starts mid~August). The anniversary quilt I did for a friend should be back from the long~arm quilter by Tuesday. So I will be binding when I'm not otherwise distracted by doing stuff with the kids.

I will quote from the show program book... "Warren Carpenter, owner of The Arts Company in Seneca, SC issued a challenge to the Focus Fiber Arts Group to create a quilt, using as many quilters as possible that would flow around all the walls of the gallery." "Three art quilt groups located in SC accepted the challenge, the Focus Fiber Art Group of the Upstate, the Thread Heads of Seneca, SC and the Fringe Sister of Columbia, SC." "It was decided that the groups would do a line challenge representing a river. Each participating artist was given a common fabric (the blue for the river) and told the size that the river would enter and exit the quilt (left to right) A minimum of 14" and a maximum of 23" were set as the length. This variation in length created the undulating top and bottom line with the continuous, but Everchanging River." This is a traveling exhibit so to keep the river flowing each quilted panels were mounted on a separate black fabric wit... BTW if you were to see Katy Rose today bounding aroud you would never believe me that she ripped out a claw. She's not even needing the pain medicine but I'm not stopping the soaks and antibiotics prescribed. Now at the quilt show inspirations abound. I met several of my online friends for the first time, including TQS member kfstitches. So many of you have been asking about "the Hippy Skirt". A true hippy skirt has to have a peace sign on it. Right? The hollyhocks up the right leg... Flower Power! 1) Take a pair of blue jeans (I like the deep pockets in this pair I got at the thrift store for $1.00). 2) T ake out the stitches in the crotch and inseam. 3) Overlap the crotch and insert a triangular wedge (both front & back). 4) Embellish! 5) Best when coupled with a macrame belt, peasant blouse & hippy sandles... the fringe on the belt can work as a chatelaine.

06/18/2009: Well I had planned to be at the NQA Quilt Show bright & early. Not in the cards. I finally got there about 1:30 pm. My little girl (cocker) was limping badly. After a closer look & almost getting nipped, I discovered theat her claw was bleeding & really bad looking. The vet said come in NOW! Katy had pulled the claw practically out. At the vet's we muzzled her... "How indignant!" she glared. Then the vet looked & the claw came out flipping like a tiddly wink with no effort at all. She got a shot of antibiotic & one for pain then it was noticed that Katy was due for the Rabies booster... why not while we were there. The silver lining... the lectures & classes I paid for are tomorrow & I DID get a couple hours at the show before the lights went out at the convention hall. AND I found a few fat quarters for a challenge quilt I'm working on for The James' Stitching Sisters (charity quilts for cancer patients).

We spent yesterday trying to protect Mom's husband from himself (showing signs of Altzheimer's). In doing odd jobs somehow he seems to have been duped into taking payment in car titles... He thinks he can make a killing on reselling them. Not stopping to think what the limit is to considered "personal sales". So far he's ok but he has to either get a dealer license or hold onto the last 6 or 7 until next calendar year. We took care of getting those ducks in a row and stopped for lunch. During lunch we got a call that my brother ( with bi-polar) was on his way to the hospital in a manic state. Turns out they were tweaking his meds and it set off this episode. This morning we got the news that the step brother lost his appeal for a new trial. He was wrongfully convicted of murder when his wife committed suicide. The basis of the conviction wa... Some trips you find nearly nothing and other trips... jackpot! Designed to recycle good before they hit the landfills. Well they have a huge bin of all kinds of fabric scraps (most times more junk than quilting fabrics). Well this last trip they got a donation of cottons (probably an estate donated by heirs of a quilter). I nabbed a bunch of scraps, odd blocks, and 2 huge pieces of fabric. So much I needed a 10 ream copier paper box for the fabric only. One was 4 yards of 36" wide Waverly... I see a garden skirt... HUGE rose bouquet motif. The other was actually in 2 pieces (same print) 3 yards and 8 yards. So yesterday I had to wait for the water company at my next door neighbor's house (they retired to Florida) to turn off the water. I took my Waste Not fabric over and pressed it all out. (They have a built in ironing board in the kitchen.) During m... I learned a few new things but most of it was old hat. After all these were experts. Then there were companies with booths recruiting for things like the Police Department & Army.... yea right, me at 54 in an Army Boot Camp... LOL... unless I could patchwork my own camo garb... We usually meet in a room with tables and space to work on our own projects. So I took along the background fabric for the 50th Anniversary Quilt, my two rotary cutters, ruler & cutting mat. When we arrived the school needed our usual room and sent us to the auditorium. These hard wooden fold down seats were obviously built in the 40's and, of course, NO tables to work on. My butt had a hard time fitting... and I'm not that fat. That beside the point, I had to go back out to the car for something and noticed that I still had my little wooden TV table in the car (I was too lazy to take in the house from the last quilt show I did). It was perfect! I quickly grabbed the table, headed back inside and planted my butt in the front row. It was the perfect size for the cutting board I brought.
Decision made from Joan

03/03/2009: Just got the decision back from Joan. She likes the second border version that I posted on the anniversary quilt. Today we get to play with the 4x4 photos. I will post that when I'm done importing them into EQ6 so you can see the whole idea. After the layout is done we will print the photos for the gameboard center onto the fabric and go shopping for the actual "other fabrics" for the quilt. We are thinking Southwest color scheme because Joan's parents live in Arizona with a nuteral color bedroom. But we will see what the LQS has in relationship to the actual photographs on fabric.

As I said earlier we are making it their game of life. There will be 3 borders... a 2" solid, a 4" border of 4x6 and 4x4 photos and then the 10" final border. The picture border will frame the top of the matress. The pathways will be sprinkled with photos and squares that say the things like "lose 1 turn", "go to college", etc. We will include bean bag playing pieces that match the head shots for each person's start block. The first 5x7 is when the met. Then make it to the wedding picture. Finally the 5x7 with the car will say "And the journey continues". The 4x4 photos are not finished yet and they will go in the alternate areas on the border.

03/02/2009: My what a buzy weekend! I've been working with my friend, Joan, on an anniversary quilt for her parent's 50th. I designed it on EQ6. Basicly it is a "game of life" using their family photos and milestones. We are using the EQ photo fabric and currently working on the photo preparations before printing to the fabric. I learned how to set the photo in EQ6. I also learned that the photos must be cropped and ready as they would be for the actual quilt BEFORE importing them into EQ6. There are a total of 90 photos to play with. So far we worked all afternoon Friday & Saturday... with a shopping break for groceries, and computer gear. I got a wireless router box.... Yeah laptop in bed! AND I hooked it up right. Sunday, Mom's 77th birthday. We all acended on her house bringing a birthday feast. There were a total of 10 around the table. OMG I just looked at the clock... lost track of time. Guess where I have been blogging from at 9:30 am?... That's right, on the laptop in bed. I need to...

02/17/2009: Today was quite frusterating. It looks like I will have to go all the way to a court case. Without going into the details, I request your prayers that it turns out with the payment I am owed or at least a fair compromise. I hate being the heavy. But I know I am in the right. In the middle of all of this I also got a call that the quilt guild meeting for tonight had to be cancelled due to a mix up at the meeting location. I was the scheduled program. So this means quilt therapy for the earlier frustration and no pay for the cancelled program. Mom & I had to laugh while watching the news tonight. As we turned on the tv the opening statement was "Today will be the best day of the week!" Yes, they were talking about the weather but all I could think of is "I really hope not (in referance to all of the above)." Here's hoping tomorrow will be better. We laughed and forgot it. But wait, it's what happened later that it gets wierd. When I got home to my house I noticed that my cell phone was missing. Just as I was about to call myself to find I dialed my cell number but before it started ringing there was a voice on the phone. So I must have picked up before it actually rang. The girl on the other end had found my phone outside the school. I went to her house to pick it up. It is amazing that it still worked. So far no answer from Nancy Crow but I expect that the answering machine was at the studio/barn and may not be received until Monday. While we were there I talked with a nice gal from the Columbus Dispatch. The article was in today's Metro section of the news paper. After about 15 minutes of talking about how I utilize the center and tons of pictures she only used one line from me. However, she never talked to my mother or her sister in law and they used two pictures of Mom. I've attached the link to the article if anyone is interested.

11/28/2008: I was just informed about this divice made by HP (on Martha Stewart) called Presto. It is designed to send e-mail to those relatives that are not computer literate. Basically one person with the computer will set up the account "email address" for the computerless. Then you tell the Presto when to call for the emails automatically (let's just say 1AM) and it will print out the email like they were getting a fax only prettier... color, photos, etc. This is the website for them if you want more info. I just ordered for my 76 y-o Mother. www.presto.com I am getting no compensation for this. I'm just an excited consumer who just solved the issue of printing out e-mails sent to me for Mom and running the risk of there being a time laps issue for any events involved... Freedom from that worry. Currently the Presto unit is designed for USA phone lines but they can receive e-mails from anywhere. Pati in OH

Part of it does depend on how disciplined you are about not eating them as you make them. And, of course, I never eat them as I make them, right? ... well maybe one or two. I just made the single recipe as printed and I filled two of the small 5.5"diameter x 2.5"high round tins. I get the tins at Big Lots for about $1.50 each. I also start out with the smaller amount of rum and as the dough drys out (the alcohol evaporates) I drizzle a little more rum in so it will roll again into the balls. In just this last week I had 3 grocery bags of shredded political postcards. That is far too many trees killed for this election!!! The worst offense... I have 3 doors to my home/shop. There was a political door hanger on every door yesterday. This wouldn't be so bad except for the back door. This volunteer hit sometime between 9PM and 3AM (the two times I let Kip & Katy Rose out for "doggie business"). To get to this door he had to walk up a 2 car driveway, climb over the wroght iron fe...
Home safe from Quilt Market

10/30/2008: I will catch up on reading all the blogs that I missed later. I just wanted to let everyone know I arrived home last night about 9 PM from the Houston Quilt Market. I drove down through Little Rock and met Marilyn (TQS member) & Tom. They were so wonderful. Then I drove back through New Orleans. It was the longer way but I had to get my Cafe du Mond fix. Anyway, I am home safe and dreading the work of unpacking the van. I'm leaving it until it warms up a little. Pictures later too. Pati

Getting ready for Houston's Quilt Market.

10/10/2008: Well I leave for Houston Wednesday Oct 23rd. It will be a long drive but worth it to meet up with quilting teachers, shop owners and friends. Hopefully the sales won't be like Wall St. After all it IS an International Quilt Market. We will see when it ends. I'm hoping to travel the diagonal route from Columbus, OH to Houston due to possible Ike delays by way of New Orleans. I will miss my usual stop in the French Quarter. But the car almost knows the way from the north too. I'm not sure of campground along the way. I figure they are safer for camping in the car. I would enjoy hearing any of your recommendations for campgrounds, cheaper gas (if that's possible) and "Ma & Pa home cookin' style" restaurants to try. My basic route is Columbus to Cincinnati to Louisville to Memphis to Little Rock to Texarkana and down 59 to Houston. I have accomodations once I get to Houston but on the way down and back the funds are lean enough to rough it.

Pati's theory of UFO's

I usually set out with a specific goal... work with coordinating a particular color, learn a new technique, improve my stitches (quilting or applique), or create a new pattern to use the Quilt Patis, etc. Once that goal is accomplished the project is technically finished... even if it is only one block of that technique or a completed pattern with it's completed sample. It is only a UFO when the goal has not been met. Here is one I started after seeing it in a Feb QNM either 87 or 88. I remember it by the apartment I was in and I was working at the American Heart Association when I started it. I just unpacked it from an obscure moving box. I think the borders didn't fit and I was less experianced to know why. This is why when I take a class I bring either Christmas fabrics or in the color scheme of my bedroom. If I only make one block to accomplish knowledge of the technique, I will soon have enough blocks to make a s...
Hurricane Ike

09/14/2008: Please pray for all the people affected by Hurricane Ike. I'm sitting here in Columbus, OH watching the news and checking the internet on news of Hurricane Ike. I lived in Houston when Hurricane Alicia cut through Galveston and Houston August 16, 1983. I still have friends living in Houston. So far I haven't been able to get through to them to check on their safety. Even though Ike was a smaller category storm than Alicia, Ike looks wider spread and the pictures I have seen looks like worse devistation. I remember the aftermath of Alicia. In brief, no electric up to 3 weeks in some areas and windows still out in downtown buildings when Mom came for Quilt Market the week of Halloween. This make me wonder if Quilt Market will indeed take place. I guess that will depend on how badly the convention center was damaged. If any of you are going to Quilt Market (and it still takes place) come say hi to me in the Picking Up The Pieces booth. Pati

Have you made a PMS Quilt yet?

How many of you have made a PMS Quilt? I already hear you asking, "What's a PMS Quilt?" I have coined this term to stand for P ulled M y S tash. So here are my guidelines... The quilt top must pull more than half of the fabrics from your current stash. It is even better if the whole quilt is pulled from the stash. Battings and threads are exempt but extra points for each one pulled from the stash. Fabric is considered stashed if it's not currently available in quilt shops (unless it's last year's print... found in scraps, clearance bins or as a rogue fat quarter). You may swap with a friend. This is called "PMS Relief Network" (PMS RN) or "nursing a friend". No requirements for size or patterns used. Many PMS Quilts make great quilts donated to charities like Project Linus, sent out to victims of natural disaster, our troops, etc. Let's see your PMS Quilts. This is a photo of 2 of my PMS Quilts... the vest is 100% PMS and the blue and white...
Recycling

09/08/2008: Many of you may already know I'm a big recycler. In fact, the Quilt Patis started by recycling coffee can lids and margarine tub lids. I taught for about 10-12 years before they became a product by popular demand. I am soooooooo happy that I found out about a wonderful place in Columbus, OH called the Waste Not Center. It is designed for teachers, artists, etc. to basically get things donated there before it goes to the landfill. Bath & Body Works have made massive donations of things like empty bottles, gift boxes, display items, and other packaging items. They always have baskets, office supplies, and a huge bin of fabrics (mostly drapery & upholstery samples) that has the occasional partial fat 1/4's. You never know what your will find. Sort of like dumpster diving in a safer environment. It is supported by donations and our (teachers/artists) membership. After you pay your membership you can "shop" for free. Some things have a limit others don't. The hours are limited to 2-... Of course it has it's Quilt Patis but they are appliqued to a 60 degree diamond which is then surrounded with strips... like a lopsided log cabin. The top is done but not quilted. Since it is "not exactly" a log cabin... "not exactly" a tumbling block... or a star... or streaks of lightning........... I thought about calling it "Knotted Zachly" but then I also think it needs something more poetic than punny. The Quilt Patis appliqued looks almost like a flure~de~lis but... "not exactly" and the fabrics used does not look French at all. I used Jelly Rolls and Charm squares in Moda's Shangra La and Chocolate AND I also P ulled M y S tash so it is a PMS Quilt... but (say it with me) "not exactly". It could be "twinkling stars above a trellis in the garden" but that's too long of a name so maybe "Trellis Stars." I will post a picture when I get a good one taken. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

(in an office). So I got a picture of it for the pattern after set-up yesterday, came home at 9pm and started printing patterns. The nice thing about "self-publishing" is you can have it by this kind of deadline. The bad thing, if it doesn't get done you have no one to blame but yourself. Those are the hardest kicks in the backside to endure. When it works it is soooooooo satisfying. Then there are times that all you can say is, "To Hex with it!" Hey, Ricky & Alex, want a brand new pattern using Quilt Patis on The Quilt Show??? Pati Shambaugh... "The Quilt Pati Lady"
