It was a full and tiring week, but well worth it. After all the hub-bub of getting things ready to go for the Convoy weekend, I headed off to the NG Armory and waiting for me was the most perfect spot .... traffic & coffee, what more could a quilter ask for... and YES..I did do some block making and hopefully our photo guy, "Pete" from Best Buy will get the photos to me soon as the athletes were quite intrigued with how our quilts are birthed from that 1st small square or triangle of fabric. Saturday at 7am brought the 1st of the truckers checking in, then at 10am the walk to the rigs to get the Convoy parade underway. Our little SO athlete and member of our church, Dalton, was restlessly eager as usual to get underway, but not before the traditional pose for pics by the truck. Joining Dalton & my dear hubby, Don, this year was Dalton's grampa Ron, a long time friend and nei... The fields are starting to turn, the produce stands are shifting from more delicate commodities to hearty squashes & melons and those beautiful fall blooming mums. Where did the summer go you say, since it has been over 2 mths since I blogged. The time has been spent keeping busy sewing garments, learning to sew curved seams. They are suppose to be precise, but I think caveman is more like it, LOL, good thing I have room to square up. WOO HOO...The baby playmat roads quilt will be finished in time for christmas for sure. . . There have also been a plether of weddings this yr and here is a snippit of the most recent wedding of our daughters closest friend since grade school. . . Then a few have asked me about embroidering on towels, well I said I didn't hoop, but unfortunately for me this last batch of towels were heavier and thicker, so in the hoop they went..florianni stitch and wash tearaway on the back and solvy lightweight on the top ... A friend of mine shared a pattern from one of her old quilting magazines called "Roads" by Becky Johnson. The blocks are suppose to be 8 1/2 x 8 1/2 unfinished and I expected some to be a bit off as this is my 1 st time sewing curved seams but I have NEVER been this off. The blocks keep coming out as 7 1/2 x 8. Now the opening for the pattern also states that it is called Snakes Trail & I have looked that one up and I think the problem is with the published pattern pieces. First, I rechecked the pieces to the originals and they are dead on in size, so with all 180 pieces already cut, I am at my wits end and wondering how I am going to make this work. To top it off, a dear friend of ours took some leftover ¼ inch plexi-glass from the gazebo windows and painstaking made templates for me. I now have a perfect set of templates according to the instructions that do not make square blocks and so does this dear friend who was so kind as to ... You kick up your heels and shout through the roof "YIPEE". As I promised in an earlier blog, the finale to the Truck Convoy is a concert and dance with music by one of South Dakota's up and coming country singer/song writer, Justin Haigh and our Special Olympians are not afraid to kick their heels up and join in the singing............ The Raffle Quilt is for the most part is finished. I will take it to town for a quick washing on Monday and then come home and put the last but not least piece on it...the label. Is all I can say about this injury . . . I decided that I need more FMQ on the most outside border of the raffle quilt, so away I went without taking proper manicure procedures, so now my dear finger looks like it was sliced open cutting veggies. Good thing I jerked back in time or they would have been pulling the needle out like a splinter. 1st thing I did after I got all fixed up . . . yes, sat down and finished trimming the rest of my nails, lol. I did try to go back to quilting, but am going to have to wait for the pain to subside, but rest assured, I will be back at it today. While I was in quilting, dear hubby and his dad were setting up to paint the shed they bought from the local elevator last year. I wonder what the insurance guy would say if he saw this . . . The bags are hers and she says she's not giving them up to anybody, lol. Ya know when U go to the LQS for a specific item and all of a sudden some scrumptious fabric just "Screams" at ya . . . I sure hope my Dear MIL likes her new shopping bags and the KEWL thing is; they are reversible!!! Each bag is made from a 1 1/2 yd length of fabric with just 4 (8x6) squares left over that were trimmed from the ends of the strips for the handles. But if you are like me and like to mix it up, pick 2 fabrics and get 2 looks in one. Sew til this weekend when Part 8 of the "Convoy" raffle quilt is posted, keep stitchin' and having fun with your fabric. Linda

It's been a busy week so little progress has been made on quilting, but it was not a total loss. One of the activities that kept me away from working on the quilt was a "Superior Thread Open Thread Bar " workshop and lecture that I took time out to attend at the LQS . . .Owner TQS member: sewsara . It was a fun day and evening and in true Dakota style hospitality, we took a short break from the lecture so the Superior Thread Rep, Kathy Ward, could see her very 1 st hail storm. Then, what has become normal weather for our spring, the cold wet weather settled back in and I found my joints not behaving, so back to a bit of practice to loosen them up. OK down to business. As I I told U, the Convoy days are much more than just a big truck parade. With the help of a local fire department, a healthy dose of good old fashioned competion brings out just how competitive these special athletes are... Next episode ya'll will get a peek at how we "Get Down & Funky & Rock the House" with some fine local musicians. The quilt is coming along nicely but not as fast as I would like, The short break to applique down the gems shooting out from the star came at most welcomed tim... The young man in the cowboy hat is a very special guy to us. His name is Dalton and his Uncle Roger is our neighbor/farmer a mile down the road from us. Dalton's family and my DH's family go way back to the early 1890's when their ancestors came over from Sweden and settled in this area to begin their family farming and also, them along with many other Swedish immigrants who settled in the area, built the country church we all still attend. After the convoy, Dalton went on to win 1 st place in state in his swimming division. Words can not express the feelings we felt when we found out that Dalton's dream of his 1 st "GOLD" medal was realized. Sew, moving on to the 2008 Quilt in Progress... I have found myself still recovering from a month long bout with the flu which makes for quite a challe... Now you ask, what does trucking have to do with quilting? Well, NOT unlike quilters, truckers are very compassonate and have some of the biggest hearts, especially when it comes to helping out those who are struck suddenly with illness or family tragedy, are down on their luck or in this case I share with you, coming together to rally around some of the most special people who are so often overlooked, our Special Olympic Athletes. Every year for one day, thousands of these compassionate drivers and their Big Rigs pull off our interstates and highways to raise funds for our Special Olympians so that their dreams of "The Gold" can continue to be realized. On this day, the events are kicked off with an escort form their community & st...
