I have been for the past two years and hope I don't have to miss it ever again. It's a wonderful show and I encourage anybody who can, to do it. I go alone and it's just fine...very travel friendly and easy to walk or to get transportation in the downtown area. It's offers such a huge variety of vendors and of quilts. It's just great all around! Dana in Olive Branch, MS |

It takes us about three hours to travel up the motorways - I know it's not far compared to the distances some folk go but oit's far enough for us. The main reason after the obvious one is that I meet up with the group of ladies that I 'chatter' to on the internet. We always meet up on the Saturday evening to have dinner together as well as having coffee and lunch breaks together through the 4 days of the show. If one of the ladies has entered a quilt in the show we arrange to meet by it on the first day and then make our plans for the next few days. In 2008 we took a table at the Ricky Tims lecture and supper evening - that was one of the most memorable evenings any of us have ever spent. the atmosphere was electric all evening. |

I had 2 ladies come in my shop. I detected an accent but wasn't sure - English or Australian. So I asked. Turned out 1 of each originally but both lived in Indonesia at the time. The said they came for Houston Quilt Market. "But what brought you to Columbus, Ohio?" They answered me by saying, "We can't get this stuff at home. We decided to go to Quilt Market but fly into NYC, rent a car and drive to Houston stopping at quilt shops in the Quilter's Travel Companion. But we decided to drive a different route on the way back than we drove on the way down." I was floored. I was on the way back to NYC. They spent $$$ in my shop to take back home. Still don't know how they packed it all or if they shipped it ahead. |

I have been to most Quilt Markets & Festivals, AQS Paducah, NQA (when they traveled - as far away as Tecomah, WA), guild shows all over the USA ever since. The farthest I have traveled in May 2006 was St. Cyprien, France on the southeast coastline near Spain. I was privlidged to teach my Quilt Patis technique at 2 quilt guilds while I was there. The last week we lived with a wonderful French couple (she was in the quilt guild). We even made their local newspaper & had a reception from the Mayor of St. Cyprien. It was a wonderful trip that I treasure the memories made there. |

The local quilt shop told me about the upcoming quilt show in Paducah (I was in southern California) and my husband gave me a trip to the show for my birthday. My birthday is early in March and the show was late in April. The only room I could find at that late date was miles from Paducah, and across the border in Missouri. But, to my surprise, I found other quilters in the hotel at breakfast, so I wasn't alone! The only classes I could still sign up for were the unkown teachers. So, I signed up for a class with an unkown Ricky Tims who many students thought was going to be a female teacher. I went to the show to meet all those incredible teachers, learn their techniques and watch them grow as a teacher/quilter just as I was growing as a quilter. |

(Started planning a year in advance because we heard it was difficult to book rooms.) With the temp at 108° and the high school classrooms NOT air conditioned (we were told this temp was unusual for the area) we took 2 classes & saw the show. Then we did a shop hop enroute to the Portland airport . Had a GREAT time and would do it again in a minute. 2004 was a trip to Martha's Quilt Academy in Huntsville, AL - it was a very fun experience, but is no longer held. 2006 was a trip to the AQS show in Paducah - what can I say-it was WONDERFUL. All the quilts were winners in my mind - for an entrant to just have a quilt juried into the show is super special - a ribbon has to be the icing on the cake. Ricky would know about that because he won a major award that year. Each of these was a quilt show destination trip. If this small town girl can work up the courage, Houston is a 'maybe some day' dream. |

It was SOOO worth it. I was amazed at how large it was and how many quilts and booths we were able to see. I have also traveled to Salt Lake City, UT for the HMQS show -- it was much smaller, of course, but also great fun. |

Quilts during the day and shopping and dining out every evening with daughter made the trip extra special. |

After I said to my husband that the best show in the country must be the IQF in Houston he said we have a lot of airline miles ready to expire so lets go! My children were grade school age and I said to my DH " I can find alot to do for 3 days at a quilt show, but what will you and the kids do?" He said not to worry he would do a little sightseeing with them. I had a blast taking classes, seeing the show and SHOPPING! |

(DH goes golfing while Mum and I do the show thing.) We've been to Paducah, Houston (twice, and have a third trip planned for this year), McCall's Mile-High Quiltng Symposium in Golden, the PIQF in Santa Clara, Sisters, APNQ in Seattle (five or six times), Puyallup (okay, that's a sewing and quilting show, not just a quilting show), and wherever the Canadian Quilting Association shows happen to be (Vancouver, Calgary, Winnipeg, Ottawa, etc.). We usually choose whose classes we want to take, then find out where they're going to be teaching that year. Anne in Vancouver, where we finally got snow this week--all over our cherry blossoms, and too late for the Olympics! |

In two ways it was exciting as it was the first time we had visited the USA and the first time we had seen such a large quilt show. We volunteered to be Quilt Angels, and I can recommend that as we met so many nice people and got to see the quilts close up. It was very overwhelming at first but we really enjoyed the show and seeing the Space Centre and Galveston made the holiday. You will think it silly but we were anxious to see Wal-Mart and Jo-ann’s as we had heard so much about them. As we didn’t have any transport we only managed to get to one Jo-ann’s and never got to Wal-Mart. In 2005 we went to Paducah with P&Q tours. This was fantastic as we had our own coach and saw a lot of the country. We flew into Chicago, picked up the coach and travelled to St Louise. From there we travelled through three states to end up in Paducah. The highlight was Kalona (an Amish town) but everywhere we travelled |

We almost booked our time too tight but managed to find enough time for quilt viewing and shopping. |

I do fly annually to Houston for Festival but it's only a two hour flight from Mexico - and I will confess that I used to live in the Middle East for 13 years so it was a great trip to revisit old haunts and see quilts at the same time. |

My quilt had been accepted and Hubby and I went to the show. - I'd say that seeing the quilts and the variety of methods changed my quilting life! - Yes it did. I realized that the rules were no longer so restrictive and I started to have BIG dreams. Other shows I've traveled to are AQS Paducah, International Quilt Festival, Houston, PIQF, and Denver. I try to go to at least one BIG show every year--where I can be wow'd by the beautiful work everyone turns in. It's amazing how every year the work gets more detailed and beautiful. So--soon, I'm headed to Paducah, I have 2 quilts accepted there and excitement about the trip is great. As far as classes, I've only taken a few, but they were worthwhile and they were with superstars. Quilt shows are so inspiring. Pat |

My husband and I drove in our motorhome as did my sister and her husband in theirs. We had a great time and loved the show. And this fall we went to PIQF - not quite so far. It was our first really big show, and we were blown away by the talent we saw on display. In the future we'd like to go to Houston, but I suspect it will take a lot more sweet talking our husbands. |

The distance between my home and Birmingham is about 1880 km by air. I wanted to see a really big quilt show and Birmingham is as big as it gets here in Europe. It was an experience that I'll never forget: I was like Alice in Wonderland walking throught he isles and looking at the spectacular quilts. One of the highlights were Ricky's quilts that were there on show that year. I really stood only a foot a way from Bohemian Rhapsody and have photographs of it from every angle. Unfortunately we continued our journey before Ricky himself was arrived there so I didn't have the chance to see him live =) |
