 | Blog Title: A Great Way To Ship Quilts! --Rob Appell (08/30/2011) | | | Quiltville Says: | | | September 19, 2011 at 02:53 pm | | | | I also travel and teach, and the thing that concerns me most about these is the size and the weight when flying with my quilts. How much do they weigh? (Did I miss that somewhere) And is the length long enough that they would fly as "oversized baggage"? I've been using the largest size of military duffel bag available. I travel with 2 50lb bags of quilts, and I encase them in plastic within the duffel bag in case they get wet on the tarmac. I also scotch guard the heck out of the outside. Just wondering if you have flown with these as your "luggage" and if they've categorized them as "over sized" and charged you more. Bonnie |

Looks like cardboard tubes to me. Aren't you worried about acid migrating from the cardboard to your quilts? Love the cat! Anne in Vancouver, Canada |

And the cases look great. I'm always nervous mailing off a quilt. You did a good job. Never apologize for a kitty coming into view. We are all used to Alex's cat Sparrow! Have a fabulous time. But didn't you know that your quilts will travel and look better if you roll them with the front on the outside? I realise this is counter-intuitive (we all want to protect our quilts) but the creases are less on the outside of a curve. Hilary |

Not sure how good those seals would be, and I don't know if I would trust that those would be enough if the cases were out on the tarmac in the rain! Those golf bags do have wheels on though don't they, so would make a great way to take quilts to talks to - think my hubby may get a Christmas present that gets used more than used for HIS holiday! Thanks for sharing the tip. Rhona |
