The internet is great! I've googled a bit about bleach and vinegar. One thing it is important to know. Helen is not mixing her bleach and vinegar - like in a jar or jug. The bleached item is going into the wash with LOTS of water. We'll let her tell why the vinegar is important to her. I learned some fascinating things from my google search.

Here's my two cents on bleach. Bleach will weaken fabric if you allow it to stay IN the fabric. Helen will bleach paint and then wash the painting. The bleach is not thickened - it is straight from the jug. In 1991, while making one of my first experimental 'art' pieces, I used bleach to give me a bark texture (black fabric, bleached to created streaks). That fabric is in an appliqued tree in a quilt called Timeless. Because I washed the heck out of the fabric - the bleach was totally gone and now 17 years later, that fabric is a strong as it was before I bleached it. Repeated bleaching of clothes or not getting the bleach OUT, could become a problem. Now - for a response from Helen who will be making her long journey home and it might be a while before she can answer. - Keep checking back.

I thought bleach weakened the fibers of the fabric. Could the Ausse bleach be a very different product? Please let us know so we do not creat some problems. I know not to mix bleach and amonia products, but bleach and vinegar?

I just did a search on neutralizing chlorine bleach and found this site- http://www.pburch.net/dyeing/FAQ/neutralizingdischarge.shtml It says using vinager is not only not a good idea but dangerous. Please tell me this is wrong cause YIKES I would hate to see anyone get hurt or that beautiful quilt end up ruined.

I was telling my husband about the bleach painting this morning and he said something that stopped me in my tracks. When I mentioned the white vinager he said that that would not not work to neutralize chlorine bleach because chlorine is also an acid as well, not alkaline. WHAT!!! Then I mentioned what was said about Aussie bleach being "different" and he said that bleach in some countries is NOT chlorine based, so Aussie bleach might be REALLY different than American style. Now I am worried that this beautiful quilt might be in trouble if this is true. Please, please, please tell me I am wrong on this one!!!

Three Sisters - Thank you so much for sharing your inspiration and your energy. I am soaking up ideas and learning a ton. Thank you Ricky for organizing and filming this marvelous adventure. Now I am itching to get together with my two best quilting sisters for two weeks of creative play - that would be heaven...

Helen, you'd better hope the airlines don't see these videos! You may have to pay an extra roo-poo deposit before they let Skippy on the plane to go home! :-)

When I first heard of bleach painting I was told that bleach will stay in the fabric for a very long time (you wash your clothes in bleach but can still smell it after the next washing type of thing). Anyway, they told us to use a product called anti-chlor to keep the bleach from weakening the fibers.

Three "Sisters", Inspirational, motivational, amazing, and definately pieces of your souls. You'll have inspired me to use my love of color and not being afraid to do something differant to move away from the typical. Helen I have always WANTED a tatoo but my DH said he had only one word if I got one and that is U-Haul. I am strong enough a woman to get one if I really felt the desire. Your dragonfly is simply wonderful and that would be a prime choice for a tatoo. Will have to work on a sketch. Ricky I am so jealous that you get to see this evolve firsthand. But a good jealous. I am staying closely tuned to your video on the progression of The Three Sisters pieces of your souls. peg in mo

Happy belated Birthday, Ricky!! I'm sure it was filled with wonder and lots of love. What I have gotten out of all the videos is to learn to enjoy the process. In this world of instant gratification, I think we've lost that. I feel the same way about your Rhapsody videos. eileenkny

This has been fun to follow, and it looks like Ricky had quite a treat for his special day. I do want to say Happy "Birth Day" to Ricky's Mom. Thank You for sharing your very special son with the world. Now, onto quilting, Helen, you mentioned that you prefer Aussie bleach, can you or can you have Ricky elaborate/share more info with us as to what the difference is between ours and yours? As far as the ROO POO, I'll leave that for more daring folks. I'm not quite ready to step out of the box that far yet, lol. TTFN, Linda
