We go to Weight Watchers first, then out to dinner, then we rotate houses to quilt at. We have a great time! We call ourselves Jack's Girls (we all use Jack the ripper from time to time!) We also have quilt retreats for a weekend of quilting a couple times a year! Four of us are also taking a big trip to Sisters Oregon this year for the quilt show in July! We are driving out so that we can see all the sites. Quilting with your girlfiends is the best medicine- and cheaper than a psychiatrist! |

Good times, good friends. |

There are 12 of us in our group that range from 40-80. We're all experienced quilters and help each other with everything. We rent a house at the beach once a year for a week where we hang out and quilt (and talk and sing and cry and drink and solve all the important issues in our worlds). We try to do some entertaining things at our retreat as well, such as this year's Friendship Quilt Challenge. We chose a focus fabric last summer. Each member made a 12" finished block in any style they wished (one for each member). Once we swapped blocks, we had until our retreat to make a top out of the blocks. It was amazing the different quilts we all came up with from the same blocks! At the retreat we had an unveiling and Show N Tell night. |

We consider it therapy night and we laugh and cry together and share ideas and teach each other now. They outgrew beginning quilting a long time ago! |

 | Blog Title: Sew Day (05/20/2008) | | | MarilynSaint Says: | | | May 20, 2008 at 05:30 pm | | | | We've got a group going - started out as a small group taking bear making classes then meeting at other's houses every month once the classes were over. As the years went by other interests expanded the group. Now we've got bear makers, quilters, (the majority), beaders, and just a group of women who get together for fun. At Christmas we meet for dinner and exchange handmade gifts (limiit of 5 dollars in supplies and 2 hours of work - riiiight!) Next week we're meeting at one of the women's "cottage" for a whole weekend. The home-ec teacher (retired) in the group organized the chore list around meals; we all bring something to eat, and some project to work on and sit and sew (or sit and knit, or sit and chat...whatever). There are three sets of sisters, good friends, neighbors, co-workers. What a way to demonstrate the power of creativity to bring people together. |

One of my friends owns a very small quilt shop out here in the middle of nowhere, so we meet there. There are anywhere from 3 to 6 of us, depending on what people have going on. And 2x a year we have a quilting retreat at my house for 3 or 4 days. I've been busy traveling so haven't made "sew day" since the end of March - can't wait until tomorrow to spend time with all my quilty friends! |

We did this a couple of years ago and had a great weekend. Then we didn't get a chance to get together last year but we are on for this one--so I will let you know how it goes. |

We provide sewing space, conversation, and the all important snack. Since we all work outside the home it's on Wednesday night. This group includes a 3 20-somethings and a few of us more experience quilters. A good mix. So nice to have good women friends in our lives who share their passion and experience both in quilting and lessons learned in life. denise |

When I'm home in Wisconsin, I have 2 wonderful sew days a month; one with the ladies of a church that started a bi-yearly retreat (that's how I got hooked on quilting), and the other that started as a "mental health day" to help a dear friend who battles depression. |
