Meet Sue Nickels and Pat Holly

Introducing the 2013 TQS Block of the Month designed by Sue Nickels and Pat Holly!  It's called "TWO OF US" and was created by the two of them.  The quilt measures 79" x 79" and was completed just in time for Houston.

It's an absolutely spectacular quilt and when Alex first saw it her jaw just dropped. 

Kits are available, but quantities are limited

Every month you'll learn something new as you follow along. 

  • January - Sashing 1 - Learn Debra Wagner's Striplate Piecing technique to accurately piece triangle units.
  • February - Sashing 2 - Learn accurate piecing of strips.
  • March - Learn to join pieced arcs to curved edge.
  • April - Learn basic stitched raw edge appliqué.
  • May - Piecing the star in circle blocks - Learn how to piece the triangle units in a circle and reverse applique.
  • June - Applique Border 1 - Learn straight stitch bias stems and outside points.
  • July - Applique Border 2 - Learn reverse applique and small circles.
  • August - Applique Border 3 - Learn embellishments and thread stems.
  • September - Applique Border 4 - Learn how to deal with complex units.
  • October - Learn how to assemble the quilts blocks and borders.
  • November - Learn Sue's Free motion feather quilting techniques.
  • December - Binding and finishing - Learn how to embellish fabric with decorative stitches to make your own binding fabric.

Join us on a new 12-month quilting journey as we bring you a fabulous quilt designed especially for TQS by Sarah Vedeler. Sedona Star is a spectacular medallion quilt that features a beautiful center star surrounded by a charming array of appliqué elements.

Each month we will provide a photo and detailed directions for a portion of the quilt, as well as full-size patterns. Sedona Star finishes at approximately 88” x 88” inches. 263_bom_15_00_2_s_m.jpgOne version features a total of sixteen different print fabrics, including colorful shades of blue, pink, purple, yellow, red and gold; however, Sarah is providing another alternative color option and instructions for each month as well. Fabric kits for both colorways area available in limited quantities through the TQS Shoppe.

Download the pattern for a new section of this quilt online each month. Also be sure to watch Sarah’s monthly instructional video to help you along the way. Sarah assures us that this quilt looks complicated but is achievable by everyone. Join the fun! It’s a wonderful way to start each month!

Sue Garman has done it again!  Ruffled Roses is a quilt that will increase your skills, make you smile, and have your family in awe.  You may want to make this your first Show Quilt.  With appliqué, paper piecing, and traditional piecing mitered corners etc., you will become a better quilter while creating an heirloom treasure.  Also, we asked Sue to document how she decided on the quilting patterns.  Later in the year you will get a lesson by Sue on how to quilt the quilt.  Ask questions and get help in the forum, or help someone else on the journey.
