Here is your chance to get back into that 60s groovie feeling. Make a "Big Love" quilt using the elements Joachim mentioned in Episode 511. The sky's the limit on what you choose to make. All entries must be submitted by March 26, 2010. One lucky winner will be announced on April 1, 2010. That winner will receive a totally "far out" prize. So join us in the fun.
Rules:
1. The quilt must have the word LOVE in it. 2. The quilt must include "mod" flowers. 3. Decorative embroidery stitches (by hand or machine) need to be included. 4. The quilt can be any size you desire. 5. All entries must be completed - no tops or unbound entries accepted. 6. Members of the ARJJ team will select finalists. |

The winner of this challenge will win a giclee´ fine art print of Ricky's "Summer Storm in Clay County, Texas.
In TQS episode 406 Ricky demonstrated how to create a "Gridded Art Quilt" by using a few theme blocks and then assembling them together using common traditional units -such as half-square triangles, quarter-square triangles, four patches, etc. Using the approach presented in that episode, we hope many of you will enjoy participating in this challenge.
1. All designs must be original.
2. All designs must utilize a few 'theme' blocks mixed with a variety of traditional units.
3. Entry can be any size.
4. Designs must be based within a grid system. You choose your grid size.
5. All entries must be completed - no tops or unbound entries accepted.
6. Members of the ARJJ team will select finalists.
7. Winner will be announced in the August 4, 2009 TQS Newsletter. |

Challenge Rules: 1. Theme: "Helping Hands". Your original composition must represent your interpretation of what the theme means to you and your description, when submitting, should defend/discuss how you arrived at your interpretation. 2. Size: Up to, but not exceeding, 100 inches perimeter/all edges total (can be rectangle, square, circle etc). 3. Quilt must be finished (three-layers, sandwiched, quilted, bound) when submitted. No partially finished entries please. 4. Challenge Fabrics: Two challenge fabrics are required - one solid and one print from the Fabric of Life Project. Choose one solid and one print fabric in the color of your choice from the “Fabric of Life Project” fabrics available at the TQS Shoppe. Please note: Each beautiful fabric is created by hand. The print style and color vary greatly from what is shown! Fabrics are sorted into the closest color category for your choice. Orange may be creamy, coral, or almost tan. Green could be sea foam, teal, or cucumber, etc. The TQS Shoppe images of these fabrics are meant to serve as an approximation of what you will receive. Order your fabrics from the TQS Shoppe. Please note the shipping time and factor this in when beginning the project. 5. Both of the challenge fabrics must be "featured" on the front of the quilt. You may add any additional fabrics of your choosing.
6. All design compositions must be original but can incorporate traditional elements/designs. 7. Challenge fabrics cannot be altered from their original color or print (such as by dying, painting. stamping, etc.). 8. The quilt can be 2-D or 3-D. 9. The quilt can be embellished in any way desired. 10. Finished entries must be submitted online to TQS no later than 2/21/09. A selection of finalist will be a part of the 2009 TQS Challenge episode and will be featured on the show. Finalists will be notified by email. |
