I created "The Original Quilt Patis" (tm), temporary plastic foundation technique. Taught the technique for 10-12 years before it became a product in May 1996. I was on Simply Quilts #509. It started w/hexagons but now we make more shapes.

Here is the kit cover photo. It is a kit since it is the pattern and includes all of the Quilt Patis needed to make the butterfly.

I love the grey one too. The body was a one piece scrap that I found at the Waste Not Center and the wings is some Japanese fabric I got at the NQA show this last June in Columbus, OH. I had been looking for the perfect wing fabric for a couple months for that body. I thought I had found the fabric in a fat quarter but it was in a LARGE set of fat quarters (I think it was 12 of them for $35.00 & I only liked 2). The vendor didn't have any single fat quarters at her booth & wouldn't break up the set. In this economy I think it was a mistake because I didn't buy the set. It turned out better for me because then I found the Japanese fabric for only $3.50 or $3.75 for a single fat quarter.

I have now made about 50 signed original butterflies (no 2 alike). Going from start to finish I can get one done in about 3 hours. I have all of my "bug parts" in little bag in my purse for that found time.

I took a dozen of them to the Franklin Park Conservatory's gift shop for the Butterflies & Blooms exhibit. They told me the other day they have sold most of them so now I'm waiting for the check.

I'm really excited about them. This is boosted whenever I get a compliment on whichever one I am wearing at the time.
