I love learning new things. And I really love watching people at work. Especially those who can do neat things. Like I can watch those glass-blower people for hours. How do they do that? And Alex drawing quilting designs? How much fun is that? The Sharon Schamber videos? I could watch them for hours. Heck, I watched all the Gammill videos (on the sidebar) one night and I don't even own a longarm! And then there's the shows here. These are invaluable tools that I have gone back to reference time and time again. (Ooh -- that reminds me -- I still have to order my DVD!) And just as much fun are the BTS videos from Alex and Ricky (there -- I used the technical term -- Ricky should be happy!). I was trying to help Ritzy get her quilting videos online (I hope she's successful -- they're really fun -- I've seen previews!) so I decided to make a how-to video about -- well -- how to make videos. Really, it's how to get your own videos online so you can share them with us! I'm very visual as I'm guessing most quilters are. I can read a book and understand something, but seeing it being done helps me really "get it." So now I'm hopefully giving you the tools so you can share what you got! If you have a cool technique, I'm sure we'd love to see it! Got cute kids or grandkids? (Of course -- they're all cute!) Turn 'em into stars! I love seeing people's quilting rooms (mostly because I don't actually have one!), houses, gardens, towns, friends, everything! Got your quilting buddies over? We'd love to share in a few minutes of the fun! Live in a beautiful place? I'm in the boring suburbs -- I'm all for a good tour of some gorgeous views! You don't even need a fancy-schmancy video camera. The camera I show is my plain old digital camera that has a video option on it. (The same camera that no longer has a closing lens cover thanks to Morgan picking it open a few weeks ago. Grrr!) My mom's camera and Katelyn's both have this option so I'm guessing it's a popular option on a lot of different models. So if you click on the "Watch This Video" button at the top of the page, you can watch part 1 of how I put my little videos online and hopefully you can too. There is a part 2. Yeah, sorry it's a little long but hopefully I got all the needed information in there. If you can't get to "Part Two" on the same page, you can click here to see it. The link for part two may show up on the right under "Related Videos." (And I have no idea how some video that's partial name is "Sexy Bianca" got "related" to one of my videos. Ewww!) So here are some tips for you.... - If you're using Windows and don't have "Movie Maker" on your computer already, the Microsoft update may help you. Click here for more information.
- Click here for the actual "Windows Movie Maker" page with great tutorials.
- If you have a Mac, I've heard of something called iMovies, but I'm unfamiliar with it. Sorry!
- If you're using Webshots, you are limited to a 5-minute video.
- If you're using You Tube, you are limited to a 10-minute video.
- If you're using an actual video camera, your camera's instruction manual should have information for transferring video to the computer if it is able to do so. My video camera came with editing software. Check to see if yours has any -- it may be pretty easy to use!
And if you have any questions or problems, I'd be happy to help! Drop me an email and I'll see what we can figure out. So this week I finished my BOM and started working on my next art quilt. I'm happy with how the BOM turned out (Hooray! No berries!) and I'm liking the way my art quilt is coming together. Way better than the blue monstrosity I made before. I'll post pictures when it's done. And here's what's going on in my garden this week.... Isn't he cute? He showed up a few weeks ago and hasn't left so I'm guessing he likes it here!
And my peony finally opened! It smells heavenly and this just may end up in another photo quilt! Well, I survived the week of the kids being home. I even had two extra ones on Friday -- my nieces ages 4 and 9 months. There was a lot of high-pitched screaming around here! I still have to sew some window toppers for Katelyn's room so I know that's on my list this week. We'll see what else I can squeeze in! Have a great week everyone! |
