Baby Blues

I am frustrated to the max. A friend of mine shared a pattern from one of her old quilting magazines called “Roads” by Becky Johnson. The blocks are suppose to be 8 ½ x 8 ½ unfinished and I expected some to be a bit off as this is my 1st time sewing curved seams but I have NEVER been this off. The blocks keep coming out as 7 ½ x 8. Now the opening for the pattern also states that it is called Snakes Trail & I have looked that one up and I think the problem is with the published pattern pieces. First, I rechecked the pieces to the originals and they are dead on in size, so with all 180 pieces already cut, I am at my wits end and wondering how I am going to make this work. To top it off, a dear friend of ours took some leftover ¼ inch plexi-glass from the gazebo windows and painstaking made templates for me. I now have a perfect set of templates according to the instructions that do not make square blocks and so does this dear friend who was so kind as to share the pattern with me.  SHHHH…I haven’t told her yet, but no worries, I know she isn’t planning on using them anytime soon.  Well, somehow I WILL make it work and our dear friend who painstakingly cut the templates will have a fun quilt for his new grandson & him to play on.

In the meantime, my DD who finally took an interest in sewing finished another baby quilt for a co-worker. She still needs work on the binding corners, but I am so PROUD that she has taken the interest in quilting and sewing and with a bit more help she will be rolling along. Oh yeah . . . her kitty, Harley liked the quilt too.
