First of all, thank you all for your coments and support of Special Olympics over the past months. It was a full and tiring week, but well worth it.

After all the hub-bub of getting things ready to go for the Convoy weekend, I headed off to the NG Armory and waiting for me was the most perfect spot .... traffic & coffee, what more could a quilter ask for...

and YES..I did do some block making and hopefully our photo guy, "Pete" from Best Buy will get the photos to me soon as the athletes were quite intrigued with how our quilts are birthed from that 1st small square or triangle of fabric.

Saturday at 7am brought the 1st of the truckers checking in, then at 10am the walk to the rigs to get the Convoy parade underway. Our little SO athlete and member of our church, Dalton, was restlessly eager as usual to get underway, but not before the traditional pose for pics by the truck. Joining Dalton & my dear hubby, Don, this year was Dalton's grampa Ron, a long time friend and neighbor of the Melin family. Mouse over the photo for a photo of Dalton which triggered this response from Dalton's gramma..."Now you've gone and started it, lol"

It was a fabulous weekend and before we said goodbye to Dalton as he had to leave for his next activity of the day, we made sure he left in grand style by letting him be center stage while we sang and applauded him...you see it was more than a special day for Special Olympics..it was also Dalton's 10th b-day and his smile on stage was much more suppressed than the speech he gave. Gramma says he got that from great grammma Ella, never shy to take a mic, lol.

 Now DRUM ROLL PLEASE............

 THE QUILT WINNER is......................................

Laura of Rice, TX

So with a joy filled heart, a tear in my eye and a smile on my face from having the fortune of spending such a special time with these special athletes and their families and my body tired from trying to keep up with their unending enthusiasm, it is a close to Convoy 2008 and onto preparing for Convoy 2009, date to be released soon. Until then, keep an eye out for your local Special Olympic events such as the winter Polar Plunges, etc and the biggest of all..

the Special Olympic World Winter Games held in Boise, ID in Feb 7-13, 2009 and I encourage you to take some time to check out the link below...

Here you can find links to your local chapters and their contact information as well as National Special Olympic activities.

For now, Sew long and Sew Happy
