Elena Morera (my partner) and I co-own gregory case photography. We specialize in quilt and textile photography and have over 50 clients from over 20 states that send their quilts and textiles to our studio to be featured in books, catalogs, juried shows, exhibits, patterns, and fabric designs. We have over 17 books that feature our photography.
For the last three years, we have photographed the exhibits and events for the San Jose Museum of Quilts and Textiles (www.sjquiltmuseum.org). We also photograph artist/designer’s studios and assorted marketing booths at various quilt and textile trade shows. In addition, we are guest bloggers on Quilter’s Buzz (www.quiltersbuzz.com).
Gregory is “Photo Man” on The Quilt Show and has an on-going slide show (see top of this page in the purple navigation bar: "Slideshows") of some of the behind the scenes of the Show and the surrounding La Veta countryside.
We plan to write regularly on this blog about quilt and textile photography and related subjects. Through this blog, we will introduce you to people, books, magazines, websites, blogs, quilts, textiles, patterns, fabric, and designs that you might not be familiar with and we’ll include lots of tips, features, and extended tutorials on how to improve your own quilt and textile photography. 1,441 views 1 Comments | | | View all My Blogs | 1 Comments | Submit a Comment | |  I first saw Michael Radyk’s design work after he contacted me via e-mail in December 2005. Michael was living in Philadelphia, PA, and created hand woven fabric designs and his design work was going to be featured in the prestigious publication, Surface Design Journal. He had seen my quilt/textile photography via my web site and wanted four of his textiles photographed for the Journal and for various juried shows. After I photographed his outstanding work, he was so pleased with these images that he convinced the Journal’s editor to use my photography instead of typically having the Journal’s photographer re-shoot it and thus his textile design work was featured in the Journal in Spring 2006. That spring I also photographed another four of his hand woven textiles. 
Next time I heard from Michael was in Fall 2007 and he had moved from Philadelphia to Providence, RI, to work on his master’s degree at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD). He was sending me more of his design work to photograph. I was excited to see his latest work. Therefore, it was quite surprising to open two tall boxes and found--let me pause here--to have you remember the movie, The Graduate, and what Mr. McGuire (“Are you listening?”) said to Benjamin, “Plastics.” 
Woven plastic had replaced fabric for a much different texture, feel, and look! Michael used a combination of recycled, nontoxic, and biodegradable material strips made of plastic. He said that graduate school is all about trying new ways of using different materials and I’d say he succeeded well. 
Unfortunately, he does not have a web site (yet) that shows more of his creative designs. That said, however, I’m sure we will be seeing more from Michael Radyk in the future. So, what have you done recently like Michael in using a different medium (for example, using plastic instead of fiber) in your quilting and/or textile designs? Let’s see your work.
