You can tell when I'm not blogging that it means I'm not quilting. Once school started up, my other volunteer activities stepped up too. I've been busy collecting dues and registration fees for a state teacher organization, updating websites for a few organizations, and, a new thing - surveying the RV market in hopes of purchasing an RV in the next several months. I got the RV bug primarily from a retired teacher friend of mine who is on a 6 month tour of Canada, Yukon Territory, Alaska, Wyoming, Montana, the Dakotas, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and then south from there and eventually ending up back home near Lake Shasta, CA. We've rarely taken a vacation in 37 years of marriage as we just never had the $$ to do it. If my husband didn't work, he didn't get paid, so that explains that! We may be in a different position now and since we don't have a lot of years left to be traveling the U.S., we figured we best get with it. I'm kind of reluctant to drive those big rigs and fear getting in a tight corner where you have to know how to back it up! DH would have to do that. We would probably have to tow a car too, so, I'm thinkin' - do we really want to go into debt to do this? More pondering to follow. Last week we were down in Carlsbad/Vista area visiting DD#1 to see her new house and to celebrate her birthday. It was pretty warm - not fun, BUT, their house is on a golf course and I love it. It is peaceful to look out on all that luscious green fairway, listen to the birds, watch the golfers whack the ball, and ultimately understand it is not my water bill that must keep it green. Our water bill in arid Santa Ynez has been well over $200 for three months now, along with the A/C bill! Here is a view of the golf course and the next photo features DD#1 Megan, SIL Allan and DS Patrick. Good Irish names except for Allan who is very much a Scot, accent and all!

And speaking of the Irish, my DS Leslie was in Washington DC last week and happened to be visiting JFK, Jacquie, Bobby and Teddy's gravesites, when a bit of a surprise happened. Very quietly, park police appeared and made way for Vicky Kennedy and Jean Kennedy Smith to come in to the gravesite. They were most gracious upon leaving, saying hello and thanking the 30-some visitors who were there to see the Kennedy site. I happen to be a big fan of Vicky Kennedy. A strong loyal woman, indeed. Okay, I loved Teddy too - in his later years he did much for the downtrodden. Go Irish!

It has cooled off today and for the first time in months, I have donned a long sleeve sweatshirt! Unbelieveable - last week I was dying of the heat. That's CA in the fall, peeps. So, I guess that's about it for now. Best to you all. Bonnie in CA |
