Thank you for words of support. Some of you were asking for more info. Without naming any group... we have "guests" (never "customers" at JoAnn) from one particular imigrant group that want to barter, don't speak english, ask for 1 yard, wrap it around themselves, shove it back and they don't want that piece... then they ask for 1.25 yard, repeat the process... then ask for 1.333 yard......... all the way up to 2 yard. They come in droves. I started putting a bull clip at the mark they are asking for and this is not to their liking. When you are actually cutting the fabric they are moving the fabric as if to help straighten it out but they try to gain 3-6 inches free. They reported me for taking the scissors away while the fabric is moving. Only 2 fabric cutters are on the schedule at a time with lines of 12+ guests. When they finally get their turn they will grab the fabric like a selfish 5 yo grabbing back their favorite doll from their baby sister. I had a guest Tuesday night hired to make costumes for a theatre production. 3 Midevil gowns needing 7.5 yards each gown. Because of all of the cutting from previous guests, refused and wrapped onto the bolt; we couldn't find a piece on that bold longer than 2.25 yards for the whole 20 yard in the computer's inventory of that fabric. Then the scanner kept over charging the pieces or marking 3 different fabrics from the same bar code before freezing up. Finished with the guest 20 minutes after I was scheduled to work (that will be without pay). They talked to the manager to get a discount on having to over buy (their choice) to try to get each pattern piece out of a different cut of the fabric. If it were just mothers with out of control children I would be less frusterated. But all of the above for only minimum wage, I am questioning if it is worth the 13.5 mile (one way) drive for the frustration. Our quilt shop had been in the family for 30 years and I can count the customers on less than one hand that acted as badly as what I have experienced at JoAnn's in 1 week. I have seen only 1 quilter in the week and it was a nice respite. I LOVE QUILTERS! But they are not buying their fabrics at this JoAnn. |
