Heavenly Swirls by Dana Lynch |
"New from Old" Winners Announced! The Alliance for American Quilt has announced the winners in its "New from Old" contest! Jamie Fingal, of Orange, CA, has won the Grand Prize with her quilt, Metal Measures, and--we are proud to note--two of our own TQS members have captured the 1st AND 2nd Prizes!! Way to go, Michael and Dana! Stay tuned: TQS soon will bring you a slideshow that includes every contest entry.
Quiltmakers from 29 states and Canada participated in this year's competition, which received 37% more entries than last year's annual small-quilt contest. The contest is an important fundraiser for AAQ: all entries are donated by their makers to be auctioned on eBay to raise operating funds for the Alliance. In addition, the contest provides additional documentation of the the work being created by today’s quiltmakers, as all quilts will be entered into the AAQ's Quilt Index later this summer.
The eBay auctions start on Monday, October 25, and run through December 6, 2010. Bidding for each quilt begins at $50 and proceeds fund the AAQ’s mission to document, preserve, and share the rich history of quilts and their makers...so get your pocket book out and get ready to bid! www.AllianceforAmericanQuilts.org.

Discover Welsh Quilting Expand your quilting knowledge by visiting the Jen Jones Welsh Quilt Centre, located in Ceredigion, Wales. The center, which opened in 2009, is dedicated to "promoting a wider understanding of the importance of this regional art form." The center offers changing exhibitions, workshops, and a gallery shop. The current exhibit highlights the paisley and turkey red fabrics found in the region's richly textured shawl and panel quilts, as well as in patchwork and wholecloth pieces. (Learn more about turkey red here.) The show runs through December 31, 2010. For more information, click here.

Join Alex in Knoxville Are you going to Knoxville?
Alex will be teaching classes on Quilting Design and the ABC's of Fabric.
Quilting Design can be scary if you don't have the experience. Alex learned at the knee of Lucy Hilty, a Mennonite woman with a deep love of quilting design.
Every loves fabric, but some combinations work better than others. Alex will give you the ABCs to great fabric choices. (Get it right the first time, it's cheaper.)
Then on Thursday evening Alex will present a virtual trunk show revealing her path through the quilting world. You will learn and laugh and go away with sense of what formed Alex's quilting journey.
