Explore Tools of the Trade in Episode 703
Join us for a show packed with information and tips. For starters, with the help of quilter and product designer, Renae Haddadin (via WebTV), Alex and Ricky play with the Mariner's Compass and other circular designs.

Next, we catch up with folk artist, teacher, and lecturer, Rachel D.K. Clark, who is especially well known for her quirky and colorful wearable art. After giving us a taste of her work, Rachel demonstrates a variety of her favorite piecing techniques, all of which can be used in garments or quilts. It's a show you don't want to miss! Click here to watch.

Wow, what a show.  I just have to watch it again.  Loved the techniques. Once again, Wow.--Judy

Visit with a Denver Quilt Artist:  Part 1
Recently TQS had the opportunity to visit the home of quilt designer, Renee Peterson. Renee's love of traditional quilts with a modern twist is evident the moment you enter her very colorful, beautifully decorated home, as you can see from the photo opposite. Quilters will be delighted: Renee's studio space is just as inspirational and impressive.

Join us for the first of a two-part visit to this Denver-area artist's home and studio. Click here to visit.

Don't Miss Textiles "To Dye For"
This season, fashion designers are presenting tie-dye-inspired fashions on the runway as the latest in what's "fresh and new." The Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco (FAMSF) investigates this trend by exploring its history, which has been honed for centuries by cultures spanning the globe. Practiced from pre-historic to modern times, the unique art of tie dye is enjoying a resurgence in popularity.

In a show that opened on July 31, the de Young Museum presents To Dye For:  A World Saturated in Color. The exhibition, which runs through January 9, 2011, features over 50 textiles and costumes that include a diverse array of resist-dye examples from the various museums' comprehensive collections.

To learn more about the exhibition, "visit" the de Young here... then watch Ricky demonstrate an introductory version of resist dye that everyone can achieve using school glue and procion dyes in Episode 605 here.

1448_amazingrays.jpgCreate Stellar Quilt Designs
Create your own complex circular quilt designs with the help of Renae Haddadin's book, Amazing Ways to Use Circles & Rays.  Following the old idea of dot-to-dot, Renae shows you how to build a design using circles, wedges, and dots. (See the demo with Alex and Ricky in Episode 703) .

With Renae's help, you'll be able to draft your own Mariner's Compass and New York Beauty blocks. Best of all, along with lots of helpful instruction and tips, Renae has included a CD with patterns for 7 projects. Find this and other great quilting books in the TQS Shoppe here.
