It's a Sharon Pederson Crazy Quilt Spectacular!

This week in Sharon's classroom, you'll get not just one, but two lessons on making a quilt with Crazy Quilt blocks.

In Part 1, debuting on Wednesday, June 1, Sharon shows you what you'll need to make your blocks, and then assembles the first block in her design using leftover scraps, batting, and backing.

In Part 2, which follows the next day (Thursday, June 2), Sharon shows you how to put your blocks together with sashing strips to create a reversible quilt. It's a great technique for any quilt, and you won't want to miss it!

Joplin, MO Guild Loses Everything
The Town and Country Quilters Guild of Joplin, MO, is an active and vital source of charity quilts for the needy in the town of Joplin.  Along with the loss of individual member's homes, the guild's "storage house" also was hit by last week's devastating tornado.

Gone are all of the supplies used in the making of charity quilts (rotary cutters, cutting mats, batting, fabric, etc.). If you or your quilt guild would like to donate items, please send them to the address shown below. If you'd rather, you can send a check for larger, more difficult-to-ship items, making the check payable to either Bed, Bath, and Beyond or Block by Block Quilt Shop.

1584_quiltfiesta.jpgTake a Tip (...or Two)  from Cheryl Lynch

In preparation for beginning your own tile-inspired quilt, Cheryl Lynch (Episode 811) suggests you make a quick stop at your local grocery and office-supply store. You'll find the following helpful "quilting tools" there...tools that will help make your quilting journey a smooth one.

  • Clear, gallon-sized, food-storage bags from the dollar store are usually free from any printing. These ink-free bags are perfect to use as placement guides, as well as for storing  pattern pieces.

Vote! Help the Quilters' Guild of the British Isles Assist the Quilt Museum and Gallery in York

The Quilters' Guild of the British Isles needs your help to receive further funding for the Quilt Museum and Gallery in York, one of the few museums of its kind not currently disposing of or mothballing its textiles items.

You can help by voting for the museum in the National Lottery Awards, beginning May 31. The winning entry will receive additional funding, which--in this case--will help keep the doors of the museum open.

"Seven" - Presented by the Signature Art Quilters
1584_post_your_smilebox_to_your_blog.pngThe Signature Art Quilters meet once a month and design a challenge once a year.

This year, the challenge focused on the number 7 and the seven basic design elements of balance, rhythm, unity, repetition, contrast, value, and line.

Watch and be inspired by the way each quilter interpreted the theme.

1584_triangles.jpgCheck Out These Bold Expressions of Creativity
Throughout the ages, inventive quilters have worked solely with the materials at hand.  Even though necessity often dictated this early form of recycling, exuberant and bold quilts were often the result...
