Who Is Angel Hawthorne?

39_angel_with_back_to_camera.jpg

(Beverly Price and Angel Hawthorne with Alex)

Who is the woman in green and why isn’t she facing the camera? Angel Hawthorne is a difficult person to pin down for an interview, much less for a good photo. She claims that she does not own any photos of herself. I even went so far as to beg for a bad passport or license photo. No luck she wouldn’t give them up. She did offer a photo of her dog “Rage” (short for All the Rage) as a substitute. This is one stubborn Chicago gal we’re dealing with here.

Angel is one of our producers of The Quilt Show, so she spends a great deal of time working on the details to keep the show running smoothly. There are lots of details that need to be coordinated prior to each taping session, of which Angel is a part of. So she has her hands in lots areas.

Knowing at an early age that she wanted to work in an artistic field, Angel thought she would like to be a foreign correspondent, but quickly realized that being in front of the camera was not in her comfort zone. Besides, “there were a lot more fun and interesting things going on behind the camera.” After college came an internship, work with a local TV network, and then on to programming in commercial TV. Her most recent stint was with HGTV’s “Simply Quilts”, where she worked for 5 years, and was Alex’s boss. Mmm…probably some juicy details there? While at HGTV Angel was bitten by the quilting bug. She says she is a quilter, but like many aspects of her life they are only revealed in bits and pieces. Maybe if we ask her VERY nicely, she will show us some of her work?

Angel has just recently moved to Ithaca, New York to run the Video Production Dept. at Cornell University. Needless to say between that job and The Quilt Show, her apartment is still buried in boxes. She says when the show goes on hiatus that she will have time to get everything organized. Not one to sit around, in her free time Angel likes to quilt, visit auctions and flea markets, or just hang out with friends. She also has a great sense of humor.

The Quilt Show Has More, More, More.

Episode 107 with special guest, Jean Wells, is now live. We have heard your voices and want to let you know that we have listened and taken action. The second half of Season 1 is filled with more of what you wanted. Each show varies in length, but this new show is over one hour long! That’s like getting 3 half hour TV shows in one package!

But it is more than a TV show; it is a virtual Quilting Magazine for you. And as with a magazine, you may not be able to sit and take in all of the content heavy information at one time, so we have each show divided into chapters - or segments. On the web page for the episode you are watching, you will find a Segment list that includes the easy-access information such as links to products and any other pertinent information. By using the right wing of the remote control, you can easily click on which chapter you would like to watch as often as you would like. And don't forget, the fast forward, fast back, and pause buttons are always there for your convenience.

Improving and updating The Quilt Show is something we continue to do for YOU so let us know what you would like to see in YOUR magazine.

RSS Feeds come to the Quilt Show

Really Simple Syndication (RSS), in quilter’s terms, is simply a pattern used to stitch together information in standard blocks within web browsers. Its purpose is to give you a quick way to look at news articles with just a headline and brief description. Because of its popularity on the web, we are introducing RSS feeds for both our Daily Blog and our Rhapsody Blog (with more to come).

A picture is worth a thousand words:

Each feed contains a picture, headline, a brief summary of the blog and a link to read the full blog.

To view our RSS feeds, follow the instructions below:

  1. Click on http://www.thequiltshow.com/os/rss.php for our RSS Main page.
  2. Click on the orange rss button 39_rss.gif for the feed you want to view.
  3. Click on “Subscribe” and this will add the feed to your bookmarks under the RSS category.
  4. When you want to view the feed, simply open your browser and click on the appropriate bookmark.
  5. Each browser is different but it should be easy to figure out.

Some of you more experienced RSS’ers already have news readers already loaded onto your computer. Please refer to their documentation to add our feed to your reader.

Note: Some browsers may not show RSS 2.0 compliant feeds properly, so you may experience a page with just code on it. If this happens to you, consider using a different browser. Our feeds are compliant with the RSS 2.0 standards but in time we will try to accommodate issues with all browsers.

If you experience any issues, please use our Contact Us page at http://www.thequiltshow.com/os/contact_us.php , and select the “RSS Issues” subject.

We hope you enjoy our feeds and we look forward to expanding them in the future.
