Watched the Classroom lessons for Portrait Quilts by Lea McComas and loved it! I knew I had to challenge myself to make this quilt...I purchased the perfect fabric that came in a set of fat quarters with 8 different values sold by the Pincushion Boutique called Just Off The Coast...My first person to do a portrait quilt is my beautiful great nephew. I borrowed the name Just Off the Coast ,because he lives on the Coast..First time ever I finished a quilt in a week, including the label.. I have two more in my mind that I want to do...Just like a quilter, alway a million projects we want to do,but never the time.:)

My first try at mini quilts! I was so scared to start I called George for support. He was very nice. Said "Have a class of wine, relax." So I did, it was so fun, after I got the hang of it. I also bought his ruler and fabric. There are 30 pieces in each block. Not too bad!

I love landscape photography. This quilt was inspired by a photo my husband took of a dynamic sky reflected in the water of one of our local parks. It is an impression of a moment in one place at one time. The sky and water are pieced squares on point. I also hand-painted, stamped, appliquéd, and thread-painted the surface of the quilt. The butterfly and flower beads were stitch on by hand.

Made from scraps to try pattern. Decided to try something different for quilting. I couched yarn for the quilting.
Given to a friend just recently diagnosed with breast cancer. Her comment was that the lap robe was full of hugs and good wishes.

This quilt went together quickly, I even had some of the same fabrics in my stash. I used 1/4" black bias stitched on with a double needle between the dark and the light values to highlight it more. I used multi-colored thread on the black border and on the dark parts. Made for a wedding gift and named for the recipient.

Using mostly fabrics I owned in my stash, I constructed this quilt using paper piecing and template piecing. I started it as an experiment and loved it. I gave it to my son, Dan, who loves the color and design. It stayed with me while he was a college student, and now lives with him.
