Jakes Quilt - Biking Marin Headlands

I adapted this wonderful Judy Neimeyer pattern to emphasize the "trails" and "rocky headlands" of Marin County, near San Francisco, CA. Our son-in-law, Jake is an avid cyclist. He doesn't have much time for it now, because he and our daughter Tricia are the parents of three of our grandchildren - Dex, Dasheil and Poppy. Someday Jake will be biking again, this time with three little bikes following! |

This was my second paper pieced quilt. After tearing out all the paper on my first I swore I'd never do it again. I saw this pattern on-line and couldn't resist. I was thrilled when it hung on the front of the Stitching Post during the annual Outdoor quilt show two years ago. |

Stephanie my daughter made this quilt. What is amazing to me is that she never paper pieced or curve pieced before this. I also had to teach her how to do "Y" (inset) seams. It is a gorgeous quilt. We can't wait to get it back from the quilter. |

Ghost Riders in the Sky

I fell in love with a horse fabric from Laurel Burch and choose fabrics. When I started working on it, I realized that these were all the colors that my exchange student wore, so I decided to make it for him. I chose blocks that I always choose: Marion's Choice (my name), Jacob's Ladder (my husbands name) and some favorite blocks like Ohio Star and Card Trick. After laying the whole thing out on my design hide-a-bed, I needed two more blocks. They turned out to be Dutchman's Puzzle (where Stephan is from) and Chinese Coin (his ethnicity). We had spent the year telling him about things that happened before he was born, so the title, Ghost Riders in the Sky, was perfect, because the song is copyrighted in 1948, before my husband and I were born! |

Lucy in the Sky

I started with a photo of dogwood that my father took. I then kalideoscoped it with Paint Shop Pro and printed my favorite ones on fabric. Those were then made into a quilt that I embellishd with crystals. It reminded me of the Beatles old song "Lucy in the Sy with Diamonds" thus the name! |

I loved the oriental fabrics and instead of doing blocks, my sister & I designed blocks using bamboo on one large piece of fabric. The designs inside the bamboo came from Kumiko Sudo's book. I finished it with Geisha around the border. |
