 | | Ariane.kring Presents: Carpenter Star Quilt Quilt #: 1020885 Added on 03/31/2012
I made this Carpenter Star Quilt after seeing a free quilt pattern on the website Maryquilts.com , for a lap size version of this jumbo block. I used the Accuquilt GO! cutter and the 6 1/2 inch hst die to cut my blocks. I designed an original border for the quilt, as I wanted to make a queen size quilt. This quilt was made for my brother Pierre and his wife Christa's wedding gift. It was machine pieced and machine quilted by Ariane Kring (that's me). I quilted it on a 30 year old Kenmore domestic sewing machine. It was definitely a challenge. But, it was well worth the effort. They loved their gift. |

 | | carolad Presents: Etude de Chat en Violet Quilt #: 1020876 Added on 03/28/2012
This Himalayan cat with his intent, focused gaze intrigued me. I felt that violet/purple set him off perfectly. I used applique and reverse applique techniques with raw edges finished in satin stitching. I used green silk for the eyes, a perfect match to the color in the photograph. I machine stitched free-form hearts all around him since he is a beloved member of his family. |

 | | amonserud Presents: Mary's Retirement Quilt #: 1020874 Added on 03/27/2012
When Mary retired from her long-time position as a school librarian, I made this quilt in her honor. Many of her colleagues contributed memories (in the form of book titles) along with their name (as book author) and some even contributed fabric for their book spines. Two other friends and I added the "titles" and "authors" to strips of colorful iron-on tape using permanent inks. The quilt commemorates her outstanding career as a media specialist in the schools. |

When my father-in-law passed away, I received a box of his ties. I combined these ties with those of Uncle Harold and created 14 ties for each of my father-in-law's grandchildren and presented the quilts to them at our family reunion. It took a long time to prepare the ties for cutting and piecing! |

 | | amonserud Presents: Grandpa's Shirts Quilt #: 1020872 Added on 03/27/2012
When Anneliese's grandpa died, her mom wanted to give her something to remember grandpa. She brought me all of her father's shirts and asked me to design and construct a quilt for Anneliese. This is the result after cutting apart then strip cutting many shirts and piecing together the resulting thousands of pieces of fabric. Annaliese's grandpa worked for John Deere and loved fishing. You'll notice the t-shirt blocks honoring these parts of his life and the longarmed fish swimmong around the border of the quilt. |

It is backed with a flannel by Northcott called Forest Friends. I hand quilted it with pearl cotton thread. It measures 36" square. It was gifted to my brother Pierre and his wife Christa for the birth of their first born, named Titan. |

 | | elsiequilts Presents: Mariner's Sunset Quilt #: 1020852 Added on 03/21/2012
I wanted to do something different with this round compass so when a friend suggested it looked like a setting sun, I ran with it. Trouble was, the "sun" is 35" across so the quilt is 6 x 8 feet. It needs bigger walls so if you own a hotel... it is for sale! |
