I thougt the colors and the pinwheels would be just right for him. I only had two days to complete the project and given more time I would have done a few things different, but overall I think it came out just right.

We all purchased a yard of the focus fabric. About ten of us each cut a10 inch square of a fabric of our choice for each quilter. We made whatever we wanted, using all the fabrics. We were allowed to add more if we wanted.

I like paper piecing, so I made enough blocks afterwards at home, to make a wallhanging.

I was inspired and developed this diamond shaped log cabin block. Now I realize that I have re-invented the wheel and this is not a new concept but it is lovely, just the same. And so so sooo easy!

I love the look of applique over top of piecing and knew I wanted to try to incorporate both elements. I loved the handwork and the fact that I could truly sit down while doing the applique part. I had seen pictures of an antique quilt with little stripe-y tulips that were pieced, but decided instead to applique the stripes over top of the base on this quilt.

Mary said it was her aunts quilt and it was quite old. With graph paper and the snapshot I figured out how to make each block from a fat quarter print and base fabric. This is the perfect UFO project because you can make a block every now and again when you find a cute fat quarter. My mom embroider-quilted the quilt. I'd like to add applique flowers and a scallop border...some day.

I added fussy cut barrel racer print to complement theme. The dark brown squares in the inner border depict my daughter's signature brand, THL for The Horse Lady. The quilting is primarily free motion using a Singer Quantum 9940 sewing machine. Red accent border includes barb wire quilting design. Red piping in binding was added for more interest.

This portrait is adapted from a pencil drawing my daughter titled Tigress. I expanded the picture 200% and traced on water soluble stabilizer. I cut whatever pieces would fit using drunkard's path templates. After supplementing with a few fabircs of my own, I auditioned on the floor to determine the most pleasing yet confusing design. Free motion quilting as one big quilt would have been a royal pain so I assembled it in fourths. The quilting designs are intended to represent wind, fire, earth and water - the four elements.

So I've been a little imtimidated to start the quilting on my little home machine. Im getting a new Janome in April, so I think it will probably wait until then. But I was very pleased with the outcome. Another new favorite! Since I'm a new quilter, I'm still learnig, and the biggest thing I learned with this quilt was that going a little slower and paying a little more attention to my 1/4" gives MUCH better seam results. I was excited every time I sewed a new row together and the seams still lined up. I didn't have any plans for this quilt when it was started and was asked what I was going to do with it, and I said I'd probably give it to my boyfriend's mother. But now that the top is done, it's the best one I've done so far and I don't want to give it away. Maybe that's why I'm putting off quilting it.

It is the first quilt that I machine quilted. I designed the borders and corners around the winter theme, and included quilted pine trees in the borders. All of the snowmen and center designs have been machine embroidered with my Janome 6600 machine.

This was my contribution. I had had the background fabric for a couple years and it reminded me a winter's evening. The 6 stars I patterned after a 1930's quilt I have which was made by relatives of my grandfather. As I was working on it the Robert Frost poem came to mind - woods on a snowy evening.

I bit off far too much than I could chew, as I set out to make a quilt for a double bed. I hand pieced the centre panel, which took forever, then machine sewed strips around the panel so I could get it finished. I think it took a year from beginning to end. Pleased with the outcome, even if some of the patches are a bit wonky. On reflection, I dont like the colours and patterns that I chose on the material, but at least they match the curtains and carpet. didnt know about kaffe fassett material then.......

5th grade students at Cragmont elementary school did reports on endangered species. The quilters for the annual raffle quilt were intrigued by this assignment and decided to base the quilt design for this year on the animals studied by the children. A list of the endangered species reported upon was garnered, research was done to figure out what these animals looked like, or what their specific feature was, and designs were drawn by a team of quilters. From my several year old memory, I can recall that blocks were designed by Suzanne Marr, Carrie Dovzak, Susan Wittstock, Eric Wendt, and.. and... the sea turtle was by Ruth Ehrenkrantz. Sorry if I left anyone out.

Wonderful 1-fabric quilt (Quilt No: 1016126)

The premise of the technique is rather like a Stack-n-Whack but with squares, rather than triangles. Using a fabric with lengthwise stripes, you cut the stripes in squares, based on the width of the stripe repeat. The squares are then cut twice diagonally and the resultant triangles are recombined into the Wonderful 1-Fabric Quilt. I used surface embellishments (ribbon, buttons, embroidery, and angelina fibers to bring my design together. After quilting the piece, I finished it with raw edge satin stitch. I mounted the piece on a 12" X 12" canvas that I painted black. This is often how I feel on Monday mornings - my head is in a daze!)
